Disappointing Experience All Around
āā˜†ā˜†ā˜†ā˜†

Our visit to this restaurant was underwhelming, to say the least. From the moment we walked in, the experience started on a sour note. We were greeted by a tall female server with glasses who told us to sit anywhere we liked. However, when we sat down, we realized the table was dirty. Instead of addressing this discreetly, she asked our friend (visiting from Switzerland and not fluent in English) to slide out so she could clean the table, in which our friend had a hard time understanding. The female server’s tone was unpleasant and pushy, making the interaction uncomfortable.

The pizza itself was overpriced at $28, and frankly, not worth it. It was soggy, wet, and lacked the quality you’d expect at this price point. For that cost, we expected a warm, welcoming atmosphere, sufficient napkins, and a decent-sized pizza—none of which were delivered.

To make matters worse, we noticed the same female server stepping on the seat of a booth to adjust the open sign. She didn’t bother wiping off the cushions afterward, leaving it unsanitary for customers to sit on. Her overall demeanor was unwelcoming; she seemed like she didn’t want to be there, carried an aggressive energy, and never once smiled.

On a positive note, our male server was pleasant and attentive, but unfortunately, that was overshadowed by the numerous issues we encountered.

This restaurant needs to seriously address its customer service, food quality, and hygiene practices to justify the high prices. Until then, we won’t be returning.

Really good pizza! We had the Margherita and the pepperoni and both were excellent. A little too much char on the pepperoni and with a soggy crust by the time it was eaten (approx. 10 minutes after purchase), however it is understandable with it being a thicker pie. The Margherita was incredibly well balanced in flavour and a joy to eat. I found the pepperoni to be a bit heavy on the cheese side and could use a tad more sauce. Would recommend to a friend!

Rocket Pie Pizza Canmore

2 out of 5 stars.

Let me start by saying I wanted to love this place…and it has potential.
But dang, what a disappointment.

Let’s leave the best for last shall we, as I always like to leave on a high note.

Let me set the stage - we are the only table in the restaurant as the other was leaving. Cool. I dig it. We’re early eaters for this reason.

We seated ourselves, and then the wait began. We waited for our order to be taken (15min) …. Then we waited for our drinks to arrive (15min) - which only 2 drinks of the 4 arrived and the other 2 took another 10 minutes to arrive after (?). So now it’s taken 40min to get a full set of drinks to our table with a lot of staff standing around on phones or hanging out. Odd. Still pumped to be there….
We got our pizzas fairly quick compared to the beverages - we ordered the formaggi, diavola, and pepperoni. Flavors were good, we could tell the toppings were better than your average pizza stop. However, the chore to eat them: bad. The toppings slid off as soon as we picked up the pizza. I tried the ol’ ā€˜fold it into a sandwich’ trick and it still all slid out the middle with one bite. Note for first dates: a wee bit of ā€˜za is on your face. I’m married. Don’t care. We love each other even more with the ā€˜za on our face - hey, don’t judge our standards.
Next my husband had his first beer - please recall the 40 minutes wait on bevvys - and no one came to his thirst rescue. He had to flag down the waiter and ask for a drink, he left not even asking if anyone else needed a refill… remember folks, only table in there. I’m a slower sipper so I was fine but, face palm this service. To my silly mistake of not ordering with him, we finished the pizzas and my drink was gone for a while and I realize ā€˜damn, I’m thirsty’. I then embark on flagging down service (everyone was on their phone so it looked a little like a dance to get anyone’s attention, and I’m NOT a good dancer). I place my well earned drink order. Again, drink came way after we were ready for the bill.
Lastly of this rant, the lady at the front of house came by and asked we give her all the cutlery we hadn’t used and promptly left - this is the same lady that asked if we had a pen handy for our kiddo as she didn’t want to waste bringing a coloring sheet and they had no crayons (her words). I’m honestly shocked, as I thought they would’ve had crayons on hand for their Mickey Mouse service (ok, that was catty). Finally, we had to ask for the bill and finally got a whole sentence out of our waiter - ā€˜how was everything’ …
Not cool.

Finally! The good! Flavors were alright. Nothing to go back for but, maybe I would’ve tried a cpl different menu items if I had the ā€˜time’ to come back. 2 stars because I had hopes and the flavors were good when you could actually get all the ingredients in your mouth.

āļøāļø Should’ve been one star, but the food pictures so well.

To make that truly great pizza, you really have to stand out. The dough from Rocket Pie is made fresh and specifically made to rise at the elevation in Canmore. They strive for perfection and use precise methods that leads to one of the best pizzas I have ever had.

There are items such as the Kale Caesar salad, and the famous chili oil that was not dreamed up by some pseudo executive chef or pilfered from the Internet. These are old family recipes typically from someone's grandmother that they would serve their entire family with love. The tiramisu specifically comes to mind as an example and is truly decadent.

The views within the restaurant are absolutely splendid. Primarily you will be seated western facing towards Banff. That means you will see some of the most, dare I say, romantic sunset views over the mountains.

Despite my previous comment, this place is not just for couples. It is for everyone. Families, bachelors and bachelorettes. I don't ever feel awkward coming by myself and sitting at the bar. The staff is incredibly friendly, and even puts up with my nonsense.

The manager Brad, is a well known veteran of the Canmore dining scene. The cooks are awesome guys, receiving mentorship and training from their senior cooks who have instilled excellent habits and consistency. The staff works together well, and despite getting absolutely slammed always pulls together a truly amazing experience for their guests. Highly recommended.

Parking: There's a lot of free parking here. The spots are pretty spacious and there are several EV charging stations. I have never personally had a problem finding parking in the lot but there is plenty of street parking. It is well lit, there is regular presence of security and I've always felt safe at any time.

Kid-friendliness: I have noticed the staff is incredibly pleasant to children. They will offer them crayons and colouring books. The restaurant has high chairs and everything you would need to make sure your child is comfortable. Their Bambino pizza will make the fussiest child happy.

What a pie! We got a selection including pepperoni, cheese, funghi, prosciutto and a gluten free…. They were awesome! Also don’t sleep on the kale Cesar salad!
They don’t do delivery, but they should because they would 10X their business.

Tried ordering over the phone for 40 mins while heading jnto Canmore, but could never get an answer. So went there upon arrival to try and order a pizza. Waited another 10 mins to finally speak to the hostess only to be told 1 pizza would take 1hr 10 mins - for a takeaway order. Abismal customer service. They are clearly not staffed correctly - wouldn’t waste my time trying to go here again.
