They were open and the store was unlocked but no one was working/present…we waited a while and my kids even did the “anybody home” call with no answer
On a sweltering summer day in Canmore, we wandered into The Scoopin' Moose seeking respite from the heat, and it delivered a delightful, if unexpectedly familiar, treat.
I had assumed the ice cream was a homemade affair, crafted with local flair to match the shop's charming mountain-town vibe, but it turned out to be Chapman's—a solid grocery store staple that's hardly the artisanal gem one might hope for in the Rockies. Come on, folks, with all the incredible local producers around, why not scoop up something truly from the Bow Valley instead of this mass-market standby?
That said, the heat melted away any lingering gripes as we savored our double scoops: cookies and cream, rich and crumbly, and coconut, evoking a tropical escape amid the peaks. The array of flavors on offer—dozens of them, from playful Shark Bite to indulgent sea salt caramel—made choosing a joyful challenge, and the generous portions ensured satisfaction.
What truly elevated the experience was the service: a young staff member behind the counter, with a bright smile and effortless poise, handled the rush with grace, offering samples and cheerful recommendations that made us feel right at home. Her warmth turned a simple stop into a highlight of our day.
Overall, The Scoopin' Moose is a wonderful ice cream haven on a hot afternoon, blending variety, speed, and that rare gem of pleasant staff into a memorable scoop session.
Heavy on the ice, light on the cream. Waffle cone is bottom tier.
Creamy and yummy ice cream! My husband had moose tracks last night and cookies & cream tonight. I had espresso/moose tracks last night and black licorice tonight!!excellent!!
Wonderful ice cream experience on a hot day with great service and pleasant staff !

Heard great things about this place but was disappointed. Thought it would be homemade ice cream but it was not, i can buy this in any store. Nothing special
Ice cream was good but service wasn’t great. The guy in the store was clearly annoyed with us and was kind of rude. Not going there again.
The only thing sweeter than the ice cream here is Merlin and his family! Very welcoming and caring. They helped us plan the rest of pur trip here in Banff and gave us some insider tips. Definitely recommend! Try the birthday party flavor!
Very delicious

Poor quality grocery store brand. High fructose corn syrup. Not the real deal.
Went for a birthday ice cream to this shop. I mentioned the staff that's what I was doing when they asked how is my day and they treated me like a queen. Legends❤️
The coconut was so good
Loved it. Had the double scoop of cookies & creme and coconut. The young lady behind the counter was super sweet. Definitely recommend.
Come on dawg, at least use something local not Chapmans Ice cream (crappy grocery store ice cream brand for the unaware tourists), 1 star!
