Went for my friend birthday lunch and everything there was phenomenal. The 3 of us shared a large chowder and angus beef tataki, and each of us got an onigiri and bento box. We also got dessert; cream brûlée, swirl soft serve and dessert of day. For drinks we got matcha latte, and for the road matcha bubble tea, (yes we girls can eat!). Everything just delicious, and the owner is so friendly too! Definitely coming back 😊
I wanted to gatekeep this place as it is a very pleasant tea house. Make sure to book a reservation as it can be busy and they have limited seats. The food was tasty and the desserts were beautifully made. I liked the matcha bubble tea—could’ve been a bit stronger, and the kinako topping would be even better with a smoother texture. Service could improve a little (would be nice if they double-checked orders especially for pre-ordered sets), but the owners were super kind and welcoming. The space has a lovely ambiance with lots of natural light. I can’t wait to go back.
So glad that we found this place in Canmore! Loved the matcha and the Japanese breakfast!
Absolutely fantastic food and Celiac safe, staff is very knowledgeable. Have eaten half the menu and will be returning to eat the other half as well.
Terrible service and rude restaurant owner
My family came to this restaurant based on good reviews. To our surprise, we were treated with utter disrespect. We had 5 people and the owner said they had no table for 5 person and asked us to leave (half the tables in the restaurant were empty that time). We tried to communicate and asked if we can sit in two tables and bill separately but the owner still refused. Without giving us a reasonable explanation the owner just yelled “this is my restaurant! Are you arguing with me?” and refused to serve us, asking us to leave. We left in dismay. Quite frankly I have never seen such bad service and attitude from any restaurant.
Great selection of Japanese tea. Loved that it's located in a garden centre. The food was great. We went on a weekday between breakfast and lunch so we managed to get a table without reservation.
Wagashi Tea House is inside the garden center and there is limited parking. Having been to Japan, it feels like a true Japanese Tea House. The ceremonial Matcha was perfectly made and has an amazing authentic taste. The iced Houji Cha is refreshing and delicious. We shared the Wagashi Waffle and each part tasted amazing. The onigiri were so delicious. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It's best to have a reservation. They also sell some fresh meats at the counter. Highly recommend!
Wagashi Tea House is definitely a hidden gem. It may be simple, but that’s exactly what makes it so special. The atmosphere is calm and unpretentious, letting the quality of the food and drinks speak for themselves. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and appreciate the moment. A quiet, beautiful experience I’ll definitely return to if I come back to Canmore!
The place was very cute and inside a greenhouse. When the sun was shining in our eyes, they even set up room dividers between tables to block the sun. Service was a bit on the slow side as one of their employees was sick that day, so completely understandable.
This is on the pricier side, but for an enjoyable tea outing with desserts, I had a great time.

Lo key japanese cafe and restraunt...IN A GREENHOUSE!! What amazing environs. We love plants so visiting this place, checking out pots, garden stuff is our vibe. My partner loved the Iced Macha Latte. I devoured the yakatori chicken. My taste buds give it 10 buds out of 10! Lol
Kid-friendliness: A number of kids with parents. Kids warmly welcomed.

I definitely recommend this place. I've been there two times: one for lunch and one for brunch. Both times food and presentation were great. Servers were nice. I especially loved the matcha and nerikiri.

So glad I found this place! The food quality was top notch and excellent service. I highly recommend. We also had seafood chowder and finished off with match soft serve. Sorry was too excited to eat so no pictures of soup or soft serve.
