I had high hopes for Coffee Bureau as it is regarded on the web as one of Edmonton's best coffee spots. I am from out of town and at home, I am an espresso enthusiast. While on the road, I try and find Cafes that can produce the same quality as my setup back home. I enjoyed the overall vibe of Coffee Bureau, however my shot of espresso was severely under extracted and my drip coffee tasted watered down.
This is not a case of my palette being off because I had been to Ace Coffee last weekend (the roaster Coffee Bureau uses) and they were using the same “No. 1” bean/roast in their cafe that day and my beverages were spot on. I understand espresso is a delicate art because I pull shots everyday at home. However, in this case either the barista had an oversight or the bean wasn’t quite dialed in/calibrated that day. I also feel like the ratio of bean:water was off for a drip because I don’t know of any med roast that tastes that thin.
Anyways, my long winded write up was likely unnecessary, but I feel like I need to articulate the reason for my rating.
Nice clean and convenient spot to meet and share a cup of Joe.

Just started working downtown and wondered why I kept seeing people on jasper with these white cups with red lids. Finally tracked down that it was coffee bureau. Stepped inside and immediately knew I came to the right place. Ordered a latte and toasted bagel. Fresh Montreal bagels are the best. Good coffee, great people, fun atmosphere and the small shop has a cozy feel that is super welcoming. Big fan.

Best chai latte in the city
They make an excellent almond latte.
Incredible latte! The foam texture was perfect! So good!
I have visited the new location (12316 102 Avenue) twice now. And I love it.
The coffee is amazing - specifically the Flat White.
The service is friendly!! The baristas and front end staff are kind and provide great service.
The location is cool. I love the outside seating, where you can enjoy the sun or shade. There's a lot of indoor seating and it's pretty comfy. It's a place I could spend an hour at, for sure. The music playlist is pretty great too.
The one thing is, and I only say this because I own an audio company with my husband, the speakers could be improved and/or calibrated/integrated to the space to add to the whole awesome experience.

Very amazing cafe to go to. The staff and the owner were all friendly and approachable. It's one of my favorite cafes to go to. For me, always when I feel the need to have a coffee, I drive to their location instantly. My go-to choice to buy is pumpkin seed muffin, cream cheese with bagel, cappuccino, and brownie.

Always a quality experience, fantastic people and service, great interior aesthetic in both locations. By far the best coffee in Edmonton.
Best Coffee shop in the downtown area. Incredibly friendly, knowledgeable staff who take enormous pride in their product and service. If you’re looking for a delicious pick-me-up, don’t hesitate to visit.

I recently visited Coffee Bruneau on a Sunday morning and had a rather mixed experience. While the coffee itself was pretty good, my interaction with the staff left much to be desired.
The man working that morning was extremely rude and pretentious. He was very dismissive, passive-aggressive, and condescending, speaking to me as if I were an idiot. To make matters worse, he was on his phone while making drinks, clearly distracted. At one point, he even laid his phone on one of the machines he was using, which is extremely unsanitary. I have circled the spot in a picture below where he placed his phone, though I was too uncomfortable to take a picture at the time due to his behavior.
Overall, the quality of the coffee doesn't make up for the poor service I received. I hope the management addresses this issue to ensure a better experience for future customers.
