I have been going to Empress for dozens of years!! Has the business sold?? Went there today and the pastries were awful! Nothing like they used to be. And the staff and service was also substandard.

The best donut in the town, I love the Bismark, Boston cream and chocolate donuts.

I’ve read some of the other reviews and am really surprised at them. I think that people should extend kindness to the people who work here. The owners’ daughter, who works long hours at another job THEN comes to help her parents at the bakery, has a direct, but not rude, personality, which I find very refreshing. If kindness is extended, it is returned. People should stop being so expectant of receiving kindness and forgetting to give it. We return again and again for their strudel, donuts, pretzels and breads -they’re ultra-fresh and well-priced. I think their bismarcks and glazed donuts are the best in the city!! My husband, Marc, and I will continue to shop for years to come, we enjoy our visits and treats so much.

Pastries were not good at all and staff is extremely rude.

Been coming here long time, never had the Un-pleasure of dealing with the young Vietnamese daughter until today, one of the meanest people I have ever met; horrible customer service and very rude attitude towards customers before and after me (PS all we are doing is supporting your family business). The older lady is much better to deal with and is always very happy to serve customers. I will be turning around and not coming in if I see the daughter at the counter from now on.

It smelled great and though the selection was small it was still tasty

Ok pastries. Whipped cream is stiff and has a plastic texture. Rude owner Vietnamese (?) lady. She was mean to my mother when she didn't have the debit or cash as she didn't see the sign. There are better ways to handle that situation than just yelling "BYE" at her. Learn how to do business better.

The cheese and apple cakes were delicious and the staff is so kind.

Haven't been for awhile to what used to be my favorite bakery. Went today expecting the same great pastries and sausage rolls they've made for years. Very disappointed with the sausage rolls and cheese cake. Stale and obviously not fresh. Terrible customer service by arrogant and unfriendly staff. I'm suspecting new owners have taken over! Only good thing was the donuts which made me go in the first place.Don't plan on returning and don't recommend anymore!S

Family went in today and got a few things. Was beyond dissatisfied with the service and the food. Cream horn was BURNT! Still can’t get the awful taste out of my mouth. Not to mention the whipped cream is actually cool whip. They reuse the paper bags that have food in them when you ask for it to be put in a box. I would tell everyone to avoid this place at all cost(it will cost you a lot of money as well).

Great pastries, pretzels and breads!

First, get a donut from Tim's, then get one at Empress. You will never go back to an American style bakery once you experience real quality.

I have been a customer at this store since my Mom brought me with her when I was 4 or 5 years old. I am over 50 now.I haven't gone for a little while as my Mom passed away, and the memories of us standing in the store tend to bring tears and strong emotions. But I miss it and am going this week. I hope to hold back the ?.This is the best German Store in the city. They have continued with tradition even after a change of ownership. That's important and what keeps me going back. The owners and staff always remember you and are tremendously friendly and helpful.Try some of their bakery items and a Bismark. Then bring a loaf of Rye bread, medium is my fav.
