The quality of each dish I've tried was amazing, tastes like something you could never find anywhere else. The lady who works their is extremely polite, even though she may be a bit hard to understand she is amazing. The design of the restaurant makes me feel as if I've left Canada and ended up somewhere completely different. It truly is amazing.

What can I say?
My husband and I have been coming to Hakone, ever since we moved into the neighbourhood 15 years ago. It was different then. Our waitress wore a traditional kimono and the tables along the windows were always occupied. During the Summer, the air conditioning was working full time, a great relief from the heat and humidity outside. During COVID, take out was an effortless experience. Now, it's like another reviewer has stated: it's like the owner, who is also the chef, is welcoming you into her home. She prepares the dishes in her kitchen or the sushi bar and then brings them to your table one after another, with just enough time between courses to savour all the flavours. No rush. Just amazing food and service.
Everything on the menu is wonderful but my husband and I have become very fussy in our old age. For take out, we order lots of salmon nigiri and a dynamite roll. Truly scrumptious. Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of dining in the restaurant. We started with the mixed tempura. Here, it's served the way it should be, almost too hot to eat and crunchy to the last piece. Then we had the salmon nigiri. Simply the best. We closed our meal with the dynamite role. Amazing! A dynamite roll is great as take out but so much better when eaten in house. The heat from the tempura shrimp, does something to the mayo and avocado that is simply divine. A true culinary experience.
Great food!
Great service!
And the most wonderful host and chef that you could possibly want.

Honestly it's nice if you're looking for a chill spot to unwind, no one else was there. Lady working there is really nice. The food was pretty good, reasonably priced, tbh probably gonna walk over every now and again since it's so close by. Hidden gem.

It's not easy for an old grandma to run a restaurant, so it's hard to talk about the quality of the food.

Ordered delivery from this place, worst sushi I’ve had in Edmonton. Saba tasted like burnt sour plastic, tried to eat tobiko to get the taste out of my mouth, tasted just as bad. Spring rolls came with a bento box, they were burnt and tasted off. Tempura is not cooked with panko, but rather just over cooked batter, and for some reason the tempura tastes like old fish. Salmon was okay though. Also, they use Chinese soy sauce instead of Japanese… not so good.

I really tried to enjoy this place, and dont get me wrong the lady that worked there seemed very kind! But, I ordered a hokkigai tataki and sushi sashimi combo coming out to around $50To make a long story short, it was fishy and gave off a spoiled smell. The hokkigai was withered and dry.I was going to give it to my dog, but the smell and colour was too spoiled even to give to him.Again, I really dont want to give a bad review but i didnt eat any of the $50 i just spent :,) i really hope this business changes things up because the lady seemed very kind and i want them to be successful, but as of right now i cant give more than 1 star.

They might have something to eat there, as long as you know what to order. I didn’t, so I went with what was recommended by the attendant - premium salmon rolls with mango. I couldn’t get rid of the cloying taste the whole afternoon. My wife liked the pieces of mango, and the cat had no objections to the salmon pieces, hence the two stars.

The parked black car crossing the yellow line is Hakone’s owner talking to my bf’s brother. The old man was limping and could have said something nice to the brother. It was tightly parked. Instead of choosing to be polite, he was racist telling the brother to go back to our country. We are never going to dine there for sure! It happened right in front of his resto. With his behavior, we dined in beside his resto instead.

I love this place!!! I love the lady who does all the cooking. Prices are so good for the amount you get. Best beef tattaki I’ve had and definitely lots of beef no skimping out here!

I am extremely ill and I have food poisoning. I can hardly move, I have an extreme headache, I feel nauseous and I feel like I have to vomit. The fish had a rotten smell and only had one bite. I feel absolutely sick!

As soon as we entered there was an odd smellThe owner was rude, served sushi with over sour tasting rice, the edamame was over cooked and turned mushy. We didn't even finish meal the rude lady brought our bill as if she wants us to leave. BAD EXPERIENCEplease work on etiquette and be honest with the pricing of the food as it was slightly expensive compared to the amount. I am never going and I will not recommend anyone to go there.

It was a really japanese authentic experience. The owner was very welcoming and very nice. We ordered prawn tempura, beef tataki, salmon teriyaki and a sashimi boat deluxe. Which si all very good. Would recommend to anyone looking for a japanese restaurant. Would love to visit again. ??

Recommended for: quiet lunches, dinner for two, something better than Tokyo Express but more affordable than Sushi Toshi.Avoid if: you have a large dinner party, you are expecting primo AAA cuisine. If, like me, you avoided Hakone in its early years because of so-so customer service, please give them another shot. I've recently had the chance to speak to the owner and she is a lovely person. With my limited takeout budget, I have lunch every other month here.
