We had been to the Japanese village downtown and thought we'd try this location. The food was really good, which was a similar experience. The gentleman we had cooking this time seemed bored and not into it at all. This was disappointing because the 2 main reasons we come here is for the food and the very fun and entertaining cooking process. The downtown location, in our opinion, is much better.

This place was over priced and the food substandard! If you enjoy places like Kobe steak house or Benihana, avoid this place! The cook we had lacked energy and experience! Our whole table ended up watching another table as are our cook was not engaging! This is supposed to be an entertaining dinning experience! Portions are tiny, and the food was not great! AVOID! Save your money!

Japanese Village USED to be my favorite restaurant hands down. I have been going there for 25 years and have been to multiple locations. the service has indeed suffered over the years but we usually always requested the same chef and rarely had issues. There were a few one offs where the chef we were given was a new chef and was so bad that it was embarrassing but I will admit that was few and far between. my main issue right now is with the Sauces. Japanese Village had the sauce game on lockdown - the steak sauce was the best and the ginger and salad dressings could not be compared to with anything anywhere. We used to always buy the Sauces to take home. HOWEVER, they have changed their Sauces and the composition of them and it is not just in my opinion but many of our friends as well that this change has NOT been for the better. the steak sauce is WAY TOO THICK and the flavour is just wrong. Not entirely sure what you guys did to the salad dressing but it is way off the mark and no longer even appetizing. So sad and just overly disappointing all around. Not sure if anyone reads these but if you do please go back to what once was phenomenal. The "new" formulas

First time to this location. Food was good but the atmosphere was to be desired. The chef didn't really engage with the guests and didn't really put on a show like we are used to. Was a Saturday night and steady but not crazy busy. Felt like we were rushed out. The whole meal start to finish was 45 mins. Not what we are used to when going for a nice dinner. May try this location again or go back to our favorite instead

Really Overpriced!! Food was just ok. Service was excellent, but I won't be back because of the quality of the food and portion size was not justified by the price.

The meal, service and experience was beyond exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone. It's more that just a meal......it's Japanese Village.

Although they were busy for a Wednesday night, the experience was enjoyable! Our server was prompt and of course the meal was delicious! What a great way to spend a date night watching our meal be cooked right in front of us

Came to this Japanese Village tonight because my son had never tried it before and we have both had a really tough week. We usually go to the West Edmonton mall location but this one is closer to our hhouse so we thought we would try it out. Big Mistake. We both ordered steak and shrimp, he ordered the 7 Oz steak and shrimp combo and I ordered the ribeye and shrimp combo. Our server was awesome and so was the cook. We got our shrimp and rice first. The shrimp tasted really really fishy and freezer burnt and the sesame sauce on my rice tasted really off, like old oil or something. Steak was great, cooked perfectly, my onions were still half raw, I would have let that go though. But the seaweed salad when we got it also tasted really fishy and old. So I ate what I could, was super disappointed because the sesame sauce is usually my favorite part of the meal. When our server came to do a quality check I voiced my concerns and she grabbed her manager. The manager came and listened but never apologized and reassured me that the sesame sauce was made yesterday. I told him all I wanted taken off was the seaweed salad as we would be taking the rest home. He came back with the modified bill and had taken $51 off. I thanked him and told him it really wasn't necessary to take that much off the bill. It became very apparent by the treatment he immediately started giving to me that he thought that I just wanted a free meal. Not the case at all. I have no problem paying the bill but if my bill is going to be $130 I would expect it to taste that way. So then I go up to the counter to pay and he has the machine ready and he has skipped the tip option... so now I know for sure I wasn't imagining that I was being treated as though I am a cheapo and just didn't want to pay, I was soooo insulted. I told him obviously I want to tip and he rolled his eyes at me and said it's fine. I insisted and tipped $40 on my $78 bill and walked out. I will never ever be back. The treatment I received for making valid complaints is completely unacceptable. Do better.
