Love that they have a separate vegan menu with lots of options, got the enchiladas and a lime bulldog! Both were delicious! Awesome spot with good service !
I rarely write negative reviews, especially for vegan experiences, but this place was not worth going to. I’m really surprised to see all the positive reviews. They definitely get some points for having a separate vegan menu, but I feel like having vegan options should be standard nowadays, not something to be lauded for. We started off with guacamole and chips and salsa and an order of beans and rice. Big points to them for not having chicken broth in their rice nor lard in their beans, and those dishes were fine, if plain. The guacamole and pico de gallo were awful, and you could tell that they were not made in the restaurant, but came in packaging from a warehouse. The guacamole tasted more like preservatives than avocados. 😝 I think most people come here to drink and the food is a second thought so they don’t need to make the quality very high. The appetizers were so bad that we didn’t order anything else and left soon after paying. One other reviewer mentioned that it was noisy here, and to me that’s an understatement. It felt like a huge party zone with food thrown in as an afterthought. There are so many amazing restaurants in the city; I would highly recommend passing on this one.
Awesome restaurant, great atmosphere, good food
Best mexican food in the city. Love the new location
The cheese on the nachos was clearly melted and then frozen—it wasn’t fresh at all. It turned hard and rubbery, making it nearly impossible to pick up the nachos and toppings properly. Absolutely disgusting. On top of that, I ordered the Two Tacos Kids Meal, but the server brought out quesadillas and told me that’s what I ordered. When I pointed out I ordered tacos, they suddenly changed their story and claimed these were tacos. Seriously? And when I checked the bill—guess what? It said quesadillas. They really treat customers like fools. This kind of service is insulting.
The Edmonton staple. Julio’s is a classic in the city and has never disappointed. Their new location is bigger and better, with new beautiful decor and friendly staff. It’s not summer until you get a bulldog at Julio’s.
Wonderful family get together
If you're craving vibrant flavors, generous portions, and an atmosphere that feels like a fiesta, look no further than Julio’s Barrio Mexican Restaurant!
I recently had the pleasure of dining here, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The grilled chicken plate I ordered was a perfect blend of taste and texture juicy, well seasoned chicken served over a bed of rice, topped with a dollop of sour cream, and accompanied by fresh guacamole, pickled onions, and cheese. The side of salsa added the perfect kick, tying everything together beautifully. It was both hearty and satisfying, ideal for a post workout meal or just a fulfilling lunch.
But the true showstopper? The dessert! A massive, indulgent creation layered with strawberry syrup, whipped cream, a cherry on top, and dusted with cocoa. It was equal parts refreshing and decadent definitely a treat worth saving room for!
The ambiance at Julio’s is upbeat and welcoming, with lively decor and large windows that let in tons of natural light, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a drink or meal with friends. Service was friendly and prompt, adding to the overall great experience.
Whether you’re a fan of Mexican cuisine or just looking for a new spot to indulge your taste buds, Julio’s Barrio is a must visit. I'll definitely be coming back!

An Edmonton staple of course. Good drinks especially the bulldogs. The food in my opinion isn’t very good. Atmosphere is awesome with it being in the heart of whyte ave. Great place for drinks before the bar in the summer time.

We did not have a reservation, but they managed to accommodate us anyways. We were a very large and rowdy group. They made sure we had everything we asked for and needed. After a horrible experience at a different restaurant, this was like a breath of fresh air. We appreciate Julio’s FR. Julio’s for life!!!
