If you are going to try this place thinking it’s just underrated…think again. The service was pretty terrible, the sushi was a solid 3/5 and the BBQ was not great. We won’t be back.

Great Food Great Service they add a 15% gratuity to the bill for 4 or more people many complain but the excellent service we received made for no complaint Just divide the final bill by the number of people in your group and you will see the value in the Service and Great Food we were a party of 6 everyone left full and Satisfied Thanks Lava Rock for a Great Family Dinner

We came in pretty late however James, the servicer, took the time to give us the best service and recommended their advices on the menu making sure we’ve the best experience. The food was excellent, I was impressed by their onion rings despite it’s a side dish, the onion is fresh and crispy. I’d also recommend the salmon tataki dish. Overall, ♾️/10 highly recommend this location. 🤩🫶

We came in at 5 to 2 prepared to have lunch noticed the sign on the door that said they close at 2:30 the lady upfront, no hello, how are you or anything? Just literally said it’s last call and we close at 2:30, we happily walked out and gave our $60 to your competitor next-door. This was today, Thursday, July 31.
The food was very fresh, service was fantastic. $46/person for lunch felt overpriced, but it was really good.
Server was very friendly.

Lmao, this is their newest buy 1 get one free deal on ubereats. You get 2 rolls but at half the length. So I bought a total of 4 sushi rolls at $36, and each at a width of 2-3 cm. God damn this is such a genius move who could have thought this was possible??! Bravo Lava Rock, you played me one real good, and I aint coming back.

I had a wonderful experience here. The food was delicious and fresh, and there were so many options to choose from. But what really made the visit special was the amazing service — the staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming. I truly appreciate their hospitality and will definitely be coming back again. Highly recommended!

We always dine on this place and lately service is really bad, food takes so much time to be served that you already lost appetite.
And the grill they will not offer to replace it even tho they can see its all burnt up.
Lastly I notice an increased on our bill, and reason is the server is adding 15% gratuity everytime we dine there.
We are 3 adults and my 3yrs old Son as far as I know, automatic gratuity charge is when 6 or more people is being served.
BEWARE ABOUT THIS SCAM!!!
We’ve been charged twice with this, the server is the tall guy always wear mask!
Very lazy and won’t serve u well.
Won’t be recommending this restaurant unless the owner fix that gratuity issue!
SUSHI TOSHI doesn’t charged gratuity unless your 6 or more persons, better go there and don’t waste time on this restaurant.

Interesting gimmick with the hot volcanic rock to cook your food on. Seems like this is a thing in Alberta.
The actual sushi and rolls were better than the other AYCE places I've tried in Edmonton (although they put imitation crab meat in practically everything. But at least they had the option for dragon rolls and other somewhat fancier rolls). The sashimi was also unlimited which I haven't seen in Edmonton.
Edit: tried this place many times after as well as all of the other AYCE sushi in edmonton. I will have to say this is the best one. My first time I had some diarrhea for a few days afterward but it was a 1 time thing (probably due to going on a weekday before their next shipment...). Sashimi has otherwise been ok on weekends, better quality than most other ayce places here and comparable to the above average ala carte places.
Edit: limits on the sashimi now so not my go to but still good
Beef is not good one at all
