Lava Rock Grille & Sushi

Interesting gimmick with the hot volcanic rock to cook your food on. Seems like this is a thing in Alberta.

The actual sushi and rolls were better than the other AYCE places I've tried in Edmonton (although they put imitation crab meat in practically everything. But at least they had the option for dragon rolls and other somewhat fancier rolls). The sashimi was also unlimited which I haven't seen in Edmonton.

Edit: tried this place many times after as well as all of the other AYCE sushi in edmonton. I will have to say this is the best one. My first time I had some diarrhea for a few days afterward but it was a 1 time thing (probably due to going on a weekday before their next shipment...). Sashimi has otherwise been ok on weekends, better quality than most other ayce places here and comparable to the above average ala carte places.

Edit: limits on the sashimi now so not my go to but still good

Beef is not good one at all

Foods are always great, service ... sometime we can see they ignored us. I know they can be busy, but blankly ignored customer is wild. And I've been here for years, it happens everytime. Still like their foods, still want to support them, but kinda tired of being ignored 🙁

Second time back here, it's not bad restaurant if you are just looking for a simple sushi and grill. But will come back again

Extremely bad service. Right off the bat, the guy at the front did not acknowledge our presence. Service was really bad. We've been ready to order for a good 5 minutes but no one came to us even when waving our paper. Would not recommend again.

First time trying here and it was good if you love sushi and sashimi.. it was worth it for the price..

We waited and waited and waited food didn’t come so slow more than 30 minutes food didn’t come disappointed

We found the worst sushi place ever.
I waited over 30 mins but they don't greet us, also ignore my table.
Servers were not moving from kitchen.

Food was okay, you barely get any meat. Service sucked, asked for a coke and never got so had to ask someone else and you just have to wait forever to get help. Gratuity added on table of 4 which is ridiculous

They have a pencil and paper check the boxes type of all you can eat menu. Or you can order from the regular menu as well. Each table has a griddle in the center on which you can cook some of the menu items yourself. The classic sashimi, sushi rolls, and tempura are also very good

That day was very busy, with only one waiter throughout the entire process. He was so busy, so busy, so busy，I have to wait, wait, wait, wait～

There are too many frozen ingredients

We decided to give Lava Rock Grill & Sushi another try after many years, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The service was incredibly slow, and to make matters worse, half of our order never arrived. We were especially looking forward to the 30 pieces of sashimi, which was the main reason we chose an AYCE place. When we inquired about the missing items, we were told they were "on their way" and "being made," but they never showed up. We ended up leaving frustrated and unsatisfied. The staff’s lack of communication and follow-through was really disappointing. Safe to say, we won’t be coming back.
