Lava Rock Grille & Sushi

We decided to give Lava Rock Grill & Sushi another try after many years, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The service was incredibly slow, and to make matters worse, half of our order never arrived. We were especially looking forward to the 30 pieces of sashimi, which was the main reason we chose an AYCE place. When we inquired about the missing items, we were told they were "on their way" and "being made," but they never showed up. We ended up leaving frustrated and unsatisfied. The staff’s lack of communication and follow-through was really disappointing. Safe to say, we won’t be coming back.

Food is awesome here and lots of variety. Unfortunately they did not accommodate tables for a reso we made and confirmed that they had room. When ordering food, they placed all it between two tables, so a lot of people didn’t get what they ordered. They also need better fans, very Smokey in the restaurant. Again food is worth it

Ordered on uber eats.
Got salmon avocado hosomaki and salmon nigiri (which smelled slightly fishy). The real issue is the hosomaki; I took a bite and nearly hurt myself because there was a huge (~1 inch) fish bone in the salmon (the photo is from the start of the bone, still in flesh). Really goes to show the quality of food if there’s still fish bones in their sushi

Absolutely the worst place to order. Takes over 2 hours on Uber Eats and the restaurant will act like they don’t know your order is delayed when you call. I really liked this place and ordered frequently but will not be anymore due to the fact that they were so dismissive in their errors of orders being delayed for hours. Maybe take responsibility and don’t act like you are oblivious when questioned why an order of Maki takes over 2 hours to arrive.

The food was great, especially the hot stone for meat, shrimps and vegetables! So good!!! I just wish the service was better- the waiter just didn’t seem like she wanted to be there - and did a minimum fair job. Highly recommend the all you can eat - order all the things for the hot stone - you won’t regret it, plenty of sashimi and you can’t go wrong with miso soup! Give it a try (:

We're glad we gave this place another try. They make amazing sushi! They also seem to have upgraded the quality of their beef for the bbq. Definitely one of our go-to AYCEs in Edmonton. Only thing, we wish they would have more servers as the place can get really busy and we genuinely feel bad for the 1-2 servers running the whole floor
