Unfortunately, my experience at Mikado South was disappointing.
My chicken skewers were questionable. One of the two skewers was cooked, but the other was oddly shiny, slightly pink, and had a cold, strange texture in the middle. Because I had already eaten one skewer and my selection was random, they said they couldn’t remove it from the bill. They did offer to remake it, and they also offered to prepare something else — but when you’re already concerned about undercooked chicken, it’s hard to “tempt fate” again in the moment, but also think on your feet without a menu to peruse. They also provided complimentary matcha ice cream, which I appreciate as a gesture, though unfortunately I don’t like matcha. Maybe vanilla is a more generally appreciated flavour.
What I found most disappointing was how the situation was handled. Instead of the manager addressing the issue directly, my waitress was repeatedly sent back to relay messages. She was kind and professional, and I genuinely felt bad that she was put in that position. At one point she was asked to tell me from the chef and manager both that “in order to avoid this in the future, please indicate you want your chicken well done.” Chicken should be well done by default. That comment did not sit well with me. It made it seem as though it was MY fault.
The lighting is also extremely poor compared to Mikado North. It was so dim I had to use my phone light to see my food and check the doneness of the chicken. That’s how I noticed the unusual shine and pinkness.
Lastly, portion sizes are noticeably smaller and prices higher compared to similar restaurants like Nagoya and Shogun. The beef tataki here comes with 8 slices, whereas other restaurants typically serve a full plate. Nigiri, which is usually served as two pieces elsewhere, is one piece here. Thank goodness my waitress let me know so I could order appropriately.
Overall, between the food quality concern, handling of the issue, lighting, and portion-to-price ratio, I left disappointed. I cannot recommend.

Definitely a nice calmer atmosphere in comparison to a lot of other Asian cuisine chains. Though in the past five years I've noticed a noticeable increase in price. Especially in the Bento boxes. And I do miss the hot towels they used to provide.

The food and service were excellent. Cassandra was our server and truly made our lunch special. She checked in on us throughout and even sang happy birthday to my partner when she brought out the dessert I requested. The hospitality was wonderful, and the food was delicious.
One of our go to locations. We have never been disappointed whether alone or with faily and friends inluding children.
The food was very good, and the recommended drinks were to my taste. I had the plum sake, it was sweet and delicious! The sushi was good, highly suggest getting the beef tataki. Portion sizes are also very reasonable.
Our server seemed very disengaged with our table. It took way too long for her to come see us once we were seated. She only came once to refill our drinks, and was not very friendly when she did come. The couple next to us were seated 10 min after us and their server came right away to take their drink order. It wasn't even 7pm and they were already out of the appetizer we wanted which was a big disappointment. Our server didn't seem to care as she seemed very rushed and did not want to serve us. We love Mikado but I think going forward we'll be going to be visiting other options for Japanese cuisine in the area.
Delicious food as always! We had the private room which was nice and intimate! Great service!
Food was excellent, service was great. No complaints, had the dragoneyes, they are always amazing.

I’m from Vancouver and was visiting my friend in Beaumont. We decided to go out for some food, and she recommended this place. Honestly, the moment I walked in, it felt amazing — almost like a red-carpet vibe. The ambience and atmosphere were really nice.
The kitchen is open, so you can actually see them cooking, which I loved. The lady at the front was also very welcoming, and the whole place was clean and well-kept.
We ordered their sushi, and it was great — good quantity, enough for three people. I would definitely recommend this place!

Excellent services and food is tasty. Food portion seems to be getting smaller but that is the main trend nowadays

Mikado has become my go-to spot whenever I’m craving high-quality, fresh sushi that doesn’t break the bank 💸. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of dining here multiple times, and each visit has been an enjoyable and satisfying experience. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or a first-time visitor, Mikado offers something for everyone. The combination of fresh ingredients, flavorful rolls, and reasonable prices makes this place a standout in the local sushi scene. 🙌
First and foremost, the quality of the sushi is exceptional 👌. The fish is always incredibly fresh, which is a non-negotiable factor for me when it comes to sushi. Mikado sources top-tier fish that’s tender, flavorful, and melts in your mouth with every bite 😋. It’s clear that they prioritize freshness, and that makes a big difference in the overall dining experience. Whether you’re having a classic salmon roll 🐟, spicy tuna 🌶️, or something more adventurous like a specialty roll, each piece is consistently fresh and satisfying.
The sushi rolls at Mikado are another highlight. The chefs here are true artists when it comes to creating unique and visually appealing rolls 🎨. While the restaurant offers plenty of traditional options, their specialty rolls are a real treat 🍤. From the spicy, crunchy rolls to the more intricate, chef-inspired combinations, Mikado’s menu has something to please every palate. What stands out to me is how well-balanced each roll is. The flavors are always harmonious, with the right amount of spice, crunch, and freshness in each bite. I also appreciate the attention to detail in the presentation—each dish arrives looking as good as it tastes 🌟.
When it comes to pricing, Mikado hits the sweet spot 🎯. In my experience, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of sushi you’re getting. It’s easy to find an assortment of rolls that won't stretch your budget too far, making it a great option for both casual meals and special occasions 🎉. There’s no need to feel guilty about ordering a little extra, because you’re getting great value for the price. The restaurant also offers combo platters 🍱 and lunch specials 🥢 that give you even more bang for your buck. I always leave feeling like I’ve gotten my money’s worth—and then some. 💰
Another reason I keep coming back to Mikado is the consistency 🔄. I’ve visited several times, and no matter when I go, the food is always fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The service is also generally quick and friendly 😊. The staff makes you feel welcome and are attentive to your needs, adding to the overall positive dining experience. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a casual yet modern vibe that’s perfect for everything from a solo meal 🍣 to a dinner with friends or family 👨👩👧👦.
Mikado also offers a variety of other menu itemes esides sushi, including appetizers 🍤, soups 🍜, and salads 🥗, which are all worth exploring. I’ve enjoyed the miso soup and edamame as appetizers, both of which are consistently flavorful and a perfect start to the meal.
In conclusion, Mikado is a wonderful place for anyone who appreciates good sushi, fresh ingredients, and fair prices 🌟. Whether you’re a sushi lover or just looking for a delicious meal, Mikado delivers on all fronts. The combination of tasty rolls, fresh fish, and reasonable pricing makes it an easy recommendation 👍. I’ll definitely continue to return and look forward to many more delicious meals at Mikado 🍣❤️.

We had a great table, with great service and great food. Reina was attentive and efficient. Our sushi, sashimi and bento box were fresh and prepared well. The sushi/sashimi is always very fresh and high quality which is why we always come to Mikado. Thank you for another great dinner!
I’ve been to Mikado multiple times over the last decade and they truly have never disappointed me. You get greeted right away when you walk in, the restaurant and bathrooms are always clean, food is always fantastic and reasonably priced, and the servers are always wonderful. Mik has always been our server when we come here to eat and she is always efficient and very friendly. Thank you for the consistent service!
