Today I had the dragon eye roll, baked scallop roll, pressed salmon, salmon sashimi, and takoyaki.

Interesting choice of salmon in the dragon eye roll. Salmons comes cooked and the roll itself is pretty crispy.

Pressed salmon is layered multiple with salmon in the middle making the bite pretty tasty. Baked scallops texture gets pretty close to the salmon.

Sashimi pretty standard, takoyaki pretty standard.

This used to be our go-to restaurant every sunday but for some reason their food quality and service changed. They messed up orders and bills as well. The quality is not good anymore. One from our group ordered katsu and we found some debris of tin foil that looks like those steel wool dish rubber.
One order took a very long time and the proportions with the same orders are too different. Our server didn’t know who orders what and messed up the bill couple times.
We gave this a second chance after the change but it just becomes worse. Not going back again.

The food was fresh, the service was good, and the interior was fun.

Our favourites were the tuna belly, seafood carpaccio, and the mackerel. You also can't go wrong with chicken karaage, the dragon roll, and tamago. We were pleasantly surprised by the scallop maki as well. Sometimes places chop it up so fine it turns into a paste, but we prefer there to be some texture to it.

Lastly, we loved that the walls were filled with doodles of anime, ghibli characters, and other cute art.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My friends and I came here and waited 20 minutes at our table with no service. We kept trying to call the servers and they kept ignoring us. The fact that no came to tell us they will be right with us or at least take our drink order is beyond me. The restaurant was not even busy and even if they were short staffed/training etc someone should still have the courtesy to say something to our table. It was unacceptable that we waited that long. In the end, no one wanted to serve us and we ended up walking out and going to Hanjan. The service there was amazing.

We will never come back to this place. The service was TRASH.

8/18 - Response to owner below - On saturday Aug 10th around 8:30 pm 6 people walked out of your restaurant. Check your cameras if dont believe me. Why would I waste my time writing a false review. Please stop trying to put this on your customers and tell your staff to DO better.

Ordered from Uber Eats today, after a long wait received the food. Takoyaki was BOGO and didn't receive the extra one. Beside that, Takoyaki smells like scum. I opened the batter tried to eat the octopus it tasted so terrible and rotten I spitted it out and drank water still feel the terrible taste of it. Chicken Karaage and dragon roll was not too bad but poor in quality I can tell the oil the used to deep fry is so dated. Dragon roll is also covered with mayo and gross. I just called the restaurant but it shows closed in their google profile while they are selling on Uber Eats and no one picked up the phone. Spent 40$ and got traumatized now waiting to see what's going to come down with it.

Ordered delivery and specifically asked for “no wasabi, just ginger and soy sauce please” in my notes and lo and behold I got NOTHING. No cutlery/chopsticks (I chose that option in the app) and no ginger or soy sauce when I had two sushi dishes. Hello is someone sleeping over there???!? Ruined my experience as sushi is not the same without those two things for me. I do not recommend.

One of my favourite sushi restaurants in the city! I usually lean towards delivery and every time my order is correct, fresh, delicious & a good portion! I’ve tried every roll on the menu & have not found one that I dislike. Their tempura may be the best I’ve ever had. Overall a well-rounded restaurant that is consistent in both flavour & quality.

Parking: Easy to park, lots of spaces.

Great Izakaya off Calgary Trail!

Pretty basic selection of typical Japanese foods including noodle dishes, sushi, etc. The selection and the food quality are excellent. My favorite "must-try" would have to be the Salmon Belly!

I've been coming to Sakura since it opened, quite frequently and something seemed very off this time around. I only recognized one of the staff, they have seemingly replaced every staff member in the building except one of the cooks (possibly the chef) the food remained incredible as it's always been but the service was absolutely abysmal. When one of our guests asked for Hojicha first the server acted like she understood then came back for clarification because it seemed like she's never even heard of Hojicha in her life, then she asked if we wanted a pot to which the person ordering said just a cup. We then ended up receiving a pot with 2 glasses even though no one else requested tea and we clearly asked for a cup. Our other guest ordered a cocktail which was made then sat at the counter until he asked again if he was getting a drink. We also asked about these sushi tacos they have been showing frequently on their social media but apparently isn't actually on the menu, it's very confusing. At no point were we asked about food quality, only if we were ordering more. Then the server just disappeared for the majority of service. We were long past done eating and were just looking for someone to give us the bill. No one cleared plates at any point either. When we got tired of waiting we stood at the front hoping to get someone's attention, the workers in the kitchen ignored us completely until finally the server came out and told us to wait another minute for the bill. Then came over with all the items on a single bill even though we were planning on splitting it. I just paid it because I was sick of wasting time hanging around there as it took 20-30 minutes to get our bill in the first place. This is nothing like the service we have received over the past few years and was a huge disappointment. From the change in staff I can assume the business has changed hands and that's too bad because it was a great little spot close to us that we used to be able to rely on. Now I might go back to get some takeout because the food was good but I'm not sure if I'd ever invite another friend to go eat there after the service we just received.
