Delicious buns. The staff is friendly and there is a decent selection of baked goods. There was a tour going on when I visited and they said the owners were from Vancouver. This bakery is not quite up to the Kam Do or Saint Germain in Metro Vancouver as far as choice or quality but they are good none the less.

Visited Shan Shan Bakery as part of CTC's Sweet Side of Chinatown tour. They gave us some of their mochi filled with red bean paste and winter melon bun/pastry to try. Both were really good, but the mochi was my favourite.
The workers were very friendly and the prices of baked good very reasonable. I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying some of their other desserts.

Visited the place during Chinatown After Dark event. Good Sticky Rice, haven't had it in a while
Cheap prices, great selection! Soft, fluffy bun with awesome filings. You can get tons for next to no money. So worth it
Super affordable, delicious pastries.
Bring cash. Shan Shan is my go to bakery for buns. Everything tastes so good. The BBQ pork buns here are a lot better then the other bakery's. I find the buns are generally filled with more then other places as well, the buns are soft and sweet just how they should be.
Sometimes they run out of stuff but I'm ok with that, the pork/shrimp fried dumplings are usually the ones that I fidn someone else got to before I did. But everything else is great, so I don't mind.
I love that they have a discount section as well, good value better prices then other places.
Food's good, service is great, a bit of a hole in the wall, but a worthy place to visit.
One of the OG bakeries in Chinatown, they have self-serve bins where you choose your baked goods like coconut buns, pineapple buns and egg tarts. No credit cards accepted I believe, just cash or debit (over a certain amount) only.

Visited this bakery in Chinatown for the first time last week. The box of 9 bread and pastries came to a little less than $16. Most breads were around $1.40 and the most expensive pastries were around $2.50.
All of the breads we tried had tons of filling. The quality is much better than any breads and pastries I've had from HK bakeries in Vancouver.
The highlights are:
1) BBQ pork pastry 叉燒酥: super flaky, tons of filling and tasted delicious warmed up in the toaster oven.
2) BBQ pork bun: the bun was pretty much stuffed full with BBQ pork. Bread itself is fluffy and chewy.
3) Wife cake: excellent slightly chewy filling. Hard to find wife cakes like this!
4) Egg tart: not too eggy, crust is flaky.
5) Taro pineapple bun: loved the taro filling which did fill up the entire bun.

We've been going to Shan Shan Bakery for over 10 years. The pastries are always fresh, consistent, and are among the best in the industry! The prices are lower than most other bakeries, but it doesn't feel like there's any compromise. The owners are always very kind and welcoming.
