Always great food, good service, and family restaurant feel! We always end up with a ton of leftovers.
Amazing food. Great to have any family outing at. The staff is welcoming and make for a rememberable evening.
One of my fave restaurants in Edmonton and prob on the best Chinese joints I’ve been to outside of China. Seriously it’s a gem in Edmonton. The food is always Amazing. The Shanghai noodles, the ginger beer and the soup dumplings are my usual go tos. The service is fine considering the entire staff here is two people. I love it !
True mastery. This place is almost impossibly delicious. Get some soup dumplings, egg and chive pancake, daikon puff pastry and lamb dumplings. All incredible.
Worst experience ever. The food was mediocre. Service didn’t refill tea, did minimal service. And the lady literally grabbed my wife on our way out for not tipping. I don’t mind tip if your service was good. But you had zero service. You had the guts to chase us and stop us from leaving. Horrible place.
The best soup dumplings I’ve ever had — juicy, flavorful, and absolutely immaculate. A must-try! Just be careful when biting into them, as the broth can squirt out.
Service was friendly and prompt, which made the experience even better.
I enjoyed the flavor of the peach shrimp, though I think it would be even better with a lighter batter. As for the crispy marinated duck, I found it a bit too salty, so I wouldn’t quite recommend that one.
Overall, we really enjoyed our luncheon at Shanghai 456 and will definitely be back to try more dishes!
Very fast service and very good food. Quiet atmosphere
Tried this place for lunch and overall wasn't too impressed. The service was friendly and quick but the food was just ok.
We had the black bean beef, xiaolongbao, and chive box. The black bean beef didn't really taste like black bean but the dish itself was pretty good. The chive box however was way off. There was barely any filling and the dough used tasted exactly like green onion cake dough which isn't correct. The xiaolongbao was again just ok. The soup inside was flavourful but they tasted like they were microwaved.
The food is fantastic every time. I don’t live in Edmonton, but I have driven the 4 hours just to eat here.
Soup dumplings (seafood and pork), beef pan fried dumplings, beans, snow pea tips and ginger beef are a must. This hands down is the best dumpling place as they are made fresh and in house.
The atmosphere is your typical Chinese restaurant hence only 4 stars, but I am not at a Chinese restaurant looking for good atmosphere, only good food and the food is amazing.
We are bug eaters and foodies so our average bill is larger than most folks. You can likely keep the price per person low ad their prices for the food quality you get is super reasonable
Restaurantji Recommends
I ordered the chow mein, the BBQ pork fried rice, the Shanghai noodles, two kinds of dumplings, and the sweet bread. I only liked the bread. Each person I was with was served with a 20 mins waiting time between each of us. I will say the portion sizes were huge, so we were able to share while we waited.
We loved the way this place makes the fried rice, not brown and loaded with soy sauce but more of that pretty off white color. i could have just the fried rice here and leave happy. very fresh rice. tasty !!! and good value too.
I quite like this restaurant - they do a great job with their soup dumplings, with the skin being a little thicker than other places in Edmonton, so I've never had an issue with the soup escaping before it gets into my bowl.
Lots of noodles in the sweet and sour soup!! One of my favorites. I prefer a more sour soup however. This one can be a hit or miss, it tends to taste different each time I go.
This was my first time trying the rice cake dish. Their rice cakes had just the right amount of flavor, and it was well balanced throughout the dish. Perfect and super yummy.
Their food is always quite authentic, being not too sweet or salty and lighter in flavor. Highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Shanghainese food.
Classic unsuspecting gem. Owners and staff are very friendly. It's become a regular place to go. Great to share different dishes with friends at a good price
The Xiao Long Bao and pan-fried dumplings were both pretty good when we came. Exteriors were what you expect and both were packed with a lot of broth.
