This is my go to place for Mexican food in Edmonton. I've been to other establishments around the city and I always find myself thinking back to this place. Everytime I've been to Smokin' Barrels I always want more even I leave full and satisfied.

The only negative I have about the place is that the dining area could be a bit bigger.

Yea it's good. Very very good, and authentic cantina vibe. It's full of people visiting, laughing and the music adds to the atmosphere. The empanadas are super and the chimichanga are HUGE! Definitely recommend.

Pleasant atmosphere, friendly servers, great tasting food. I’ve been to a couple places for Mexican and Smokin’ Barrels Cocina Latina is by far the best I’ve had. I am definitely going back again.

Absolutely delicious. Tastes authentic and best tacos and horchata I have ever had in Edmonton.

The birra quesadilla thing on the menu was ooozing with flavour. Will be back again soon! Hidden gem!

The food, service and atomsphere was amazing! I was visiting Edmonton and a co-worker had been there before and recommended this restaurant. The food was authentic and very flavorful. Sophia and Hector were amazing. We will definitely be back and strongly recommend this restaurant.

My friend and I went here tonight and the food was delicious and so flavourful. The quesabrillia was amazing and so many dipping sauces!

Great food, very poor service. Be very careful if you have food allergies.

The restaurant has a great vibe and feels warm and cozy. It was packed when we got there so you may not get a table right away, totally fine. I ordered a margarita when we got to our table. The waitress suggested one and said it tastes like kiwi and I told her I can’t have kiwi since I’m highly allergic but she said it was a different fruit so I’d be fine. The margarita never came and I asked for it twice. All of the food we had was great. I asked for a water refill twice since I never got my margarita and that didn’t happen for 45 minutes. We ordered churros for dessert and got the plate and it had diced kiwi on it. I asked for another since I couldn’t have that and she brought one out. We got our bill and after we paid noticed they charged for the margarita but only one churro order. I asked to be reimbursed for the marg and she said since she only charged for one churro it was fine, but there was a $3 difference so instead she just gave me $3. Be very careful if you have a food allergy and double check your bill before paying.

We tried to call and make reservations for 16 people. We were told they do not take reservations on the week, so just a heads up if that's your plan.

So we showed up around 1pm and asked for a table for 16 people. They were a little blown away at the request but they stood up to the challenge immediately! They worked hard on making room and the head chef came out and asked for our patients. We understood that this is a large party and so we waited. They said it would be about 25 mins to clean and put tables together. We got sat in 20 mins, thanks for the speedy service despite the party size.

Once we sat down it was a reasonable amount of time before we got water, about 5-6 mins. We started to read though the menu and it ALL sounded delicious!

Sofia was out server and she did a fantastic job at structuring and organizing the individual parties that would become the bills, single people, couples, families with kids. She got everything in order right away. Once we ordered it was about 35 mins for our food and most of it came out within 5 mins of each other with the exception of 2 people who waited bout 7-8 more minutes. ALL the food came out hot! With a party of 16 people, I'd like to say the kitchen did the best they could and they killed it! Hats off to the chef! We had one picky child, who asked for a different item and the kitchen got that dish out in good timing!

Now the important part, the food. I personally had the quisabirria, which was amazing! Some of the dishes that were ordered were shrimp tacos, Mexican nachos, tropical chips, birria tacos, chicken tacos, chicken soup and a few skillets. I don't recall the exact name but it was the meat lovers skillet. ALL of the food had great portions and it was reasonably priced for this economy! we will absolutely be coming back! I tired a couple samples of other dishes and everything had so much flavors. Beware the quisabirria is quite large. I had left overs for the dinner the next day and it was just as delicious as when I tried it at the restaurant.

They did add an 18% tip on top of our bills, which I feel is industry and standard and well deserved! By the way, the organization at the beginning of the meal made paying the bills smooth, fast and efficient. No figuring out who owed what! Again, fantastic work Sofia.

Had the tortilla soup and shared traditional Sizzling Alambre dish- more than enough for 2.....soooo good!!!! Will definately be back.

Comfortable inside, I enjoyed the meal. Definitely in the upper end of dineries of this genre. Initial service was on par although follow-up was slow, although it did start to get busy towards the end of my meal. Overall good experience and would return sometime in the future
