We went to The Marc for Valentine’s Day and left feeling pretty underwhelmed, especially for the price.

Our reservation was at 5:00 pm when they opened, and despite arriving a few minutes early, we were made to wait outside in the cold until exactly 5:00. Not the best first impression for a special occasion dinner.

Inside, things didn’t improve much. No one offered to take our coats, and we were seated right beside the cocktail bar, which took away from the intimate atmosphere we were hoping for. The host mentioned the feature drinks but didn’t explain them, and throughout the night dishes were dropped off with no description, just “here’s your duck,” etc., which made the experience feel pretty transactional.

The $95 set menu isn’t outrageous for Valentine’s Day, but it’s still a splurge. We’ve had similarly priced set menus at other restaurants that delivered a far more polished experience in both food and service. Paper napkins on the table also felt like a strange choice at that price point.

Food-wise, the salad and oysters were good but not memorable. The duck tasted fine but had a weak sear and hadn’t rested properly, and both mains were quite small. Dessert was the highlight, the panna cotta was excellent and the chocolate torte was good.

Overall, we’d rate it about a 3/5. Not a bad meal, but for the cost and the occasion, it didn’t feel worth it. We wouldn’t return for a set menu experience.

We had a set-menu Valentine's Day dinner at the Marc. Overall, our experience can be described as just average, despite leaving over $250 at the restaurant. First of all, this place needs to do something about their interior to add some character, as I have seen school lunch rooms that have more interesting interior designs. Maybe start with the windows, and replace cheap office-style roller blinds with something nicer?
The service was good but the dishes were fairly pedestrian and many portions were too tiny.
For appetizers, we had oysters and the pork rilettes, which was nothing to write home about (not to mention that I was expecting the typical half-dozen oysters in a serving rather than THREE).
Moving on to the mains, the crab raviolo was actually good, while the striploin steak was bland and soggy from being served in a pool of steak juice.
The desserts were probably the best items on the menu (we had the Rose Gateaux and the Panna Cotta).
This was our second experience at the Marc in the last 10-12 years. I am not sure we are returning any time soon.

Boyfriend made Vday reservations one and a half weeks prior. Got a phone call the day before Vday saying they are canceling our reservation for a party of 6 that is coming in that day. No other times offered that night, an offer to come in the next day was made. Now its too late make a reservation anywhere else. I will never my spend my money here.

Food was good, not great. Best part of the meal was the caviar, very good, and the wine, excellent. The desserts were also good

We were lucky to have such a delightful server for our dining experience. He was keen to discuss wine and dinner choices. We made great decisions about our dinner, and food was delicious! We were never rushed. It was a delightful evening!

I hadn't been to The Marc in quite some time and was really looking forward to returning, as past experiences had always been excellent. Unfortunately, this visit fell short of expectations. The service was disappointing. When we asked for menu recommendations, our server said there were seven options and that they all get ordered the same, offering no helpful guidance. We also weren't informed that several items were unavailable until after we had ordered them, resulting in multiple dishes needing to be changed. We were even told we shouldn't have booked so late due to items running out, despite having an 8:00 PM reservation, which doesn't seem unreasonable. In total, at least four items we ordered were unavailable. There was no check-in during the meal and no dessert menu was offered until I made the suggestion. This is not the experience I've come to expect from The Marc. What a shame.

Nothing short than excellent! Something to note - though this place lists the dress code as casual. it was interesting seeing how well dress a lot of people were - which honestly better suits the atmosphere of the venue

The Marc did not disappoint on any levels; the food and the service were impeccable. 20/10.

Service was excellent but food was not great. My braised beef was very dry. The mashed potatoes were excellent. I wouldn't order that meal again and likely won't be back.

Very nice restaurant and ambience. We came to try some of our favorite French foods and were not disappointed. Unfortunately they were out of the Merlot Beef which was disappointing and the main thing we went for. The steak was well cooked but a bit under seasoned, fries and compound butter were great. Chicken was beautiful and succulent and the leeks and cabbage accomodating were great. The cavier appetizer was disappointing there was not much caviar and the portion was extremely small for 30 dollars. Bone marrow was great and the paired nicely with the focaccia. Overall a pleasant experience.

We have been customers of the Marc since it opened several years ago. We have been there only a few times since it changed ownership. We made a reservation several days in advance but were “stuck” at a table in a very poor location even though there were other tables available. Admittedly we did not complain. Two of the four meals at our table arrived “cold”. They were sent back without issue but in my view, someone dropped the ball and let the plates “sit out”. My meal was excellent. I think that were spoiled by the attention the former owners gave us when we attended before the change. In my view, the restaurant ought to keep a list of valued clients and make a point of ensuring a great dining experience. Overall, it was a very average evening and the cold meals were very disappointing.

Food and wine were excellent, but there seemed to be some confusion as to who our server was initially. As such, we waited some time before being greeted, and then were not told some of the info shared with other diners such as the cocktail special, etc. We both had the Arctic Char and shared a couple of appetizers. The appetizer portions were very generous, so we probably should have only shared one. Service was good other than the initial glitch.
