Stepping into The Marc felt like being transported to a Parisian bistro… the décor is understated and elegant with white linens, warm lighting and dark wood accents that create a comfortable, romantic ambiance. The food is exquisite… every dish we tried was thoughtfully prepared and executed with precision. The steak frites was tender and perfectly cooked with crisp golden fries… the duck confit had delicately crisp skin and rich flavour… the seared scallops were sweet and buttery with a velvety beurre blanc. We started with a charcuterie board and French onion soup… both were outstanding… and finished with a decadent crème brûlée that had a perfectly torched sugar crust. The wine list is extensive and curated with interesting French and Canadian bottles… and the staff were extremely knowledgeable about pairings and happy to offer recommendations. Service was impeccable throughout… courses were timed well and servers were attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The atmosphere remained lively yet intimate, making it suitable for a romantic dinner, a special celebration or a business meal. Vegetarian guests in our group had delicious options like ratatouille and creamy risotto, and the kitchen was happy to accommodate dietary requests. Overall, The Marc delivers a refined dining experience that combines classic French cooking with warm hospitality… it is a true gem in downtown Edmonton that I highly recommend.

never been, love the name
Not the friendly welcome we are used to when Patrick & Doris owned it - no interaction with staff - staff more involved with each other than the customers. Food overpriced and no atmosphere. Service is poor, customer does not come first and the best seats in the room (end of the bar) are no longer available.

We came to the restaurant for my 40th birthday. The appetizers were excellent both both duck plates were very well done (zero pink) when we asked for medium rare. The polenta was very acidic. It was so disappointing and overshadowed the great appetizers. The braised beef was not seasoned and didn’t hold up against the jus. Sadly, I won’t be going back anytime soon.

Our first visit to The Marc was spectacular.
I was a bit nervous about the dress code since I came straight from work and wasn’t exactly dressed up but the staff were warm, welcoming, and professional. The atmosphere was more easygoing and casual than expected.
Now the food… absolutely phenomenal. Everything came out quicker than expected and tasted amazing. For appetizers, we had the lentil soup (highly recommend—super fresh and flavorful) and the crispy croquettes. But the mains were even better: a perfectly fried pork chop that made me forget I’m not usually a pork fan (I finished every bite), and a Croque Madame sandwich that tasted exactly like the one I had in France, complete with a fresh, crisp salad on the side.
Top marks for service, food, and vibe. We’ll definitely be back.

The fish was mushy, the white beans were undercooked and the haricot verts were in fact Chinese green beans. This is our first time under the new management and we were somewhat disappointed.

We came here for lunch, and I will admit, while the view and atmosphere are still very nice, they were not quite as extravagant as I had hoped (I didn't realize the restaurant and patio was only just above street level--I thought it was a few stories up). However, do not let that stop you from visiting this restaurant!
The food and service are among the best I've had. And I'm not quite sure which was more impressive. If I had to pick, I would say the service because that is more rare nowadays. They went above and beyond to accommodate our family's reservation request, and then when we arrived, the exceptional service continued. We never felt hurried by our waiter, and he was extremely friendly and helpful in making decisions. He regularly filled our water and wine, and he was very sensitive to the different family dynamics. He was so good you might not even think about him...which is exactly what makes an exceptional server.
As far as the food goes, they were all very unique dishes. The duck croquettes and sourdough for appetizers were amazing. The burger special of the day was unlike any other. And the desserts, especially the beignets (doughnuts) and chocolate cake with almond filling were incredible. This food is not your typical food! Be prepared for a real treat!

Very mid level restaurant. Steak frites wasn’t great, ribeye was extremely salty and the sauce on top was god awful, had to scrape it off with a fry. Was cooked okay. Girlfriend had the duck, also not special, feel it could have been cooked better at home.

Absolutely the worst evening here .
There were ten of us and from the start the service was not great . Food took a long time and when it did come out one person dish who is vegetarian came out incorrect . Then said they would remake only to be told when the rest of us were almost done our meal that they were sold out of salad ! So she had no meal only thank goodness she ordered olives as appetizer . There was no presence of the manager to come over and try and make things right , even though he was there standing at door all evening . All our sever kept saying was
‘Thank you for your patience’ . This was not the experience we were hoping for during our celebration dinner we planned .Not to mention we were there for 3 hours and had to ask for our bill as it seems he wanted to avoid our table after the mistake of food . We were not asked to order dessert until we asked for our bill .
Really not a great experience at all.

The food is good.
The service was way better and unique. Now, it is just like any other fine dining.
Stopped in mid-week for lunch. It wasn't overly busy but the lunch crowd built over noon hour. Service was OK but not exceptional: definitely needs some work. We ordered drinks from the bar and they showed up full of lemon seeds. I had the impression our waiter was the bar tender (and not a good one). OK, it let us know fresh lemons were used but a bit of finesse would be nice. We sent it back for tidying. We started with the truffle frites but the came cool rather than hot and they were unimpressive. For the price / hype, they were really lacking in quality. If the fries were freshly made, they sure didn't have that taste. Lunch was the daily fish special: ling cod. Again, it showed up as if it had been waiting for service: cool. I was close to sending it back. It was bland and uninspiring. We had the beignets for dessert and they were under cooked - wet and doughy inside. Avoid those. Overall, I have no plans on returning. It was a special occasion but it was disappointing. We haven't been to The Marc for a long time but it will be even longer now before I'd consider another visit. We used to enjoy it years ago but some serious polish is needed. Maybe we hit an off day but I won't go back to find out.
It was the best food I’ve eaten and I don’t usually try new things but mmmmmmm exquisite service and staff, phenomenal food, will be back again!
