The food is good, but not unique! However if you want a solid and predictable meal it's an excellent place to go!

Best French toast in the city. I'm obsessed with French Toast. I think I have tried every place in the city that serves it. This is my favourite spot.

A longtime Edmonton favourite — comforting dishes, quality local ingredients, warm service, and a sunny patio perfect for summer days.

For a fuller picture —
Urban Diner on High Street has been a favourite for years — a comfort-food classic rooted in quality, warmth, and that nostalgic neighbourhood feel Edmonton diners are known for. The menu blends beloved staples with thoughtful touches, using quality local ingredients and offering consistently satisfying dishes prepared with the care and reliability that keeps people returning time after time.

The summer patio is a highlight — sunlit, relaxed, and ideal for weekend brunch or a mid-day break. Year-round, the interior offers a cozy, inviting atmosphere that feels like an extension of another era, much like the neighbourhood: warm, welcoming, and charming.

I live close to Urban Diner so it’s often a go-to for a reasonably priced, good brunch/lunch. However the last two times I was there the service was horrible. I brought my mother for her birthday, an older lady with grey hair served us. She was borderline impolite, my mother asked for a side syrup with her French toast, the server said it already comes with syrup on top and just didn’t bring any. Then, today, I tried again, I brought my sister for brunch. And I don’t think I can, in good sense, come here again. Our server Shauna, was likely the worst I’ve ever encountered. We didn’t see her often and when we did she was curt and disinterested. Would start walking away before I even finished my answer. Had other servers bring us our food. We sat with dirty our dishes in front of us for over 25 minutes until we asked another waitress for our bill. I’m sorry, I left zero tip and won’t be coming back.

This is a solid breakfast place that makes quality eggs Benedict. It’s a great spot to have a visit.

We stopped in at this little gem on a whim while in the area. It was great idea, excellent food and atmosphere. We talked with the wait staff and she took pride in telling us that they had been in business at the location for over 21 years. We didn't have a chance to deep dive into the food and drink menu but our lunch was delicious. Next time in the area we will be sure to explore again.

Food wasn't good and the service was even worse. What really saved the day was the fantastic patio and the cute shops nearby.

The Urban Diner remains one of the most consistent spots in Edmonton for a unique vision of breakfast and Diner inspired dishes.
I had the Classic Breakfast with 2 medium poached eggs, savory hash browns, an amazingly plump and flavorful pork sausage, and an artisan whole grain toast with jam. My friend ordered the same with Urban's famous meatloaf instead of sausage - perfection as always.
If you've never tried before, how's the time for a confort food experience!

The food and proportions are generally good. Nice installations. The restrictive menu and scheduled availability of certain food items is a little frustrating - note that I have only ever eaten breakfast here. I would have given 4 stars for food, but the chocolate milk seemed to be diluted with plain milk. I went with a larger group, 9 people in all, and didn't make a reservation - there were enough free table to accommodate our group upon arrival. Our server's attitude made it seem like we were being an inconvenience requiring 2 tables to be pulled together. Also, we were never informed about the specials (posted on a board high above the counter) - overall just a lack of consideration for the client.

Very poor standards here; the place still looks good but all of our 4 meals were woefully undercooked, flavorless. Go elsewhere.

Ordered stuffed French toast was very yummy. Also I'm a professional cleaner and can say that it's very clean especially the bathrooms, cleanest bathroom I've seen in a restaurant I was impressed!!!

Had high hopes for diner hash with brisket. The brisket was very bland and the potatoes lacked crispiness. Maybe I'll give this place another chance, maybe not.
