“Is the food good? Yes. You can tell that a lot of care was put into crafting every dish. Taste-wise there's nothing to complain about and there's something to praise about every aspect of every dish. I wouldn't say it's mind-blowing, but it's definitely above average. The service, by the standards of a small, family-owned restaurant, was also outstanding.
So why the four star review rather than five stars? As many other reviews pointed out, obtaining a reservation at this restaurant is akin to winning the lottery where you've only won by getting through the one single phone reservation line after dozens, if not hundreds of frustrating phone call attempts, before all availability for the season is gone.
During my experience dining in, there was also plenty of seating that was empty. Thus, the restrictive and limited availability for this restaurant were more of a deliberate decision by management for reasons other than the physical limitations of the facility.
So, to summarize, the food was tasty and the service was hospitable. However, the difficulty in obtaining a reservation, especially when the restaurant books out months in advance, will remain as a frustrating experience that one associates with this restaurant. One may argue that the outstanding food and service is worth the hours of frustrations during the reservation process, but I disagree. There are many restaurants elsewhere in the country and around the world at a comparable price point with similar, if not better food and services that does not subject their patrons through the same fickle and grueling reservation process. The food itself, while good, is not Michelin-starred level good. For this reason, I do not see myself returning to this restaurant anytime soon. One can make their own judgment as to whether they are willing to invest a few hours of their life on the phone dialing and redialing along with some of their hair and brain cells for the privilege of patronizing an above average semi-fine dining restaurant.“
