Little Italy
Was excited to try a cannoli for the first time a couple weeks ago. Googled it and it said the shells are filled when you order them at an Italian Bakery so they stay crispy. The one I ordered was picked from a a stack that was already made. When I drove 2 minutes hoke it was like a soft sad crepe wrapped around the filling. I was very disappointed.
We went to Caffè and store. Lots of variety in both places. Prices were good. Liked and wipl be bavk
I went yesterday and had a red velvet, cream horn and chocolate dipped cream puff, and to be honest it tasted artificial; I didn’t enjoy it at all. On the other hand, there Nutella doughnuts were excellent and the staff were friendly.
Adamo and his staff provide friendly service and the best quality products .
The pastries and cakes are amazing.
Enjoy a great shopping experience with great value.
Great place to shop. Even has some gluten free options in the grocery section. though no gluten free fresh baked goods
Fun fact: every birthday cake that I’ve ever bought in my entire adult life has been from the Italian Bakery's Mercato in St Albert. I don’t make it to this location often anymore but when I do I make the most of it. Get your groceries for the week, enjoy some food and drinks that they don’t have at your local grocery store and make sure you sit back at the cafe/bakery and enjoy some espresso and gelato. Also, pick yourself up a spicy sandwich on your way out for lunch and you won’t be disappointed.
Great pastry selections here.
I can’t get past the hand hygiene. I think the deli workers wear those disposable gloves home with them.
I have personally witnessed the deli crew touch their own hair and face, Use a cleaning bucket and rags and Lift crates in the back room then use the same gloves to help customers.
This was our first visit after hearing great things about your macaroons. The store itself was wonderful, and we ended up purchasing a chocolate waffle. However, I was concerned about the customer service. The two staff members present didn’t seem happy, and their attitude felt unwelcoming, making it a bit uncomfortable to stay. Just wanted to share this as a concerned customer, because your products look delicious.

I had visited a fancy cake shop in Arizona and desperately wanted to find somewhere that had similar cakes. I discovered Mercato and my first cake was the birthday. I was ecstatic because it tasted almost the same as the expensive wedding cake shop in Arizona. (Only that shop has raspberry in the middle, take note Mercato. Lol) It was rich and flavorful but not too sweet. Very dense so a piece is quite filling.
Then I tried the tiramisu. Amazing flavors!
I got one for mother's Day (not sure what it's called but it had some citrus filling).
We've tried various single slices as well.
Recently I tried the velvet cake which has a lovely cheesecake type flavor inside.
I am impressed by the quality ingredients and taste for a very reasonable price.
This has now become our go to for cakes and I can't wait for my relatives in Arizona to try it.
TURN ON THE DOOR OPENER IN THE CAFE. Every time I come here it’s not turned on. They have it but won’t turn it on. I have been here with my 88 year old grandma who uses a walker, a friend who uses a wheelchair full time, and my baby in the stroller. Every time I try to enter it’s ridiculously hard as the door is large and heavy and it’s hard to help someone in or get in with a stroller while trying to navigate the damn door. I’ve mentioned this to the staff on MULTIPLE occasions but everyone just seems very confused and won’t turn it in. Just get a stool and flip the switch. It’s not that hard.
Mercatos has an excellent selection of imported Italian foods, pasta, bread, and cheeses. Sadly, cakes have lost their appeal. The frosting recipe changed about 4 years ag and it’s an inferior product.
Love coming here tho I do have a suggestion so you have happier staff (no one was grumpy btw). Make it possible to tip the deli and cafe staff on the debit credit card machine!! They work so hard and deserve the tips! No one uses cash anymore.
