Franz Bakery is located between 25th ave and Hilcrest street on spenard. They have a monopoly across Anchorage and the state of Alaska. Their product quality sucks (will have pics to show), they cut quality production to increase their profits. Their bread is thinner, has more bubbles and holes in it, not allowing you to make the type of sandwiches you once did without the dam ingredients falling out fro bread breakup, or the condiments coming thru the bread with only the slightest of pressure pressing together. The fact they have lock on almost every single bread broduct sold in stores infuriates me, but we here in Anchorage have almost no other choice but to buy from the bread bakery store shelves soley stocked from Franz Bakery. Even the name brand breads you look for are stocked from Franz Bakery, therefore they can keep raising the price because there is no competition to keep prices down and product quality up. The product being made at Franz Bakery SUCKS anymore and the quality shows it. Just like Gci having a monopoly with cable and internet services and keeping other businesses from providing competition, Franz Bakery has also been granted that same moonopoly license from the state. ANCHORAGE needs someone too step up in the bakery business and make good quality product at lower fair pricing and start putting Franz Bakery on notice for thier bullchit pricing, and bullchit quality of product. Im tired of throwing away product because of their nonsense just to make more money for less product and product quality. Photos of my last throw away included, is the last half of an open sourdough round sliced bread and a newly opened one ...... how in the you know what are we supposed to do with this kind of quality?

Neat bakery & retail space in Spenard. I come here to get my Franz buttermilk toaster biscuits cuz they are cheaper than other grocery stores if they even have them. It's evil how the aisle where you enter the store is all Donuts! Just daring you to get to the next aisle without grabbing something! Get the reusable shopping bag, it's really big and has a fun animal circus cookie on the bag! Sometimes wish they had a little more variety but then I would just spend more. A nice little weekend stop.
