I had a truly delicious meal at Umami. I ordered the fried tofu with fish sauce and the fried rice with ribeye steak. Everything was fantastic, especially the green sauce that accompanies the fried tofu. This green sauce is made from cilantro, jalapeño, and a type of fruit that adds a touch of sweetness; it is not spicy. I recommend asking for it on the side, as it creates a unique flavor when paired with the steak. This experience really highlights why the restaurant is named...
Went on a date there the other day personally the food was god awful because there wasnt a wider variety of sauces me and my girl found none we consistently liked there was a green one that tasted of kiwi i believe that one was tolerable but god you guys need more sauces. And the broths in the hotpots could use a step up too. Personally yall should check out yakisabu for pointers cause they were 10 times better for half the price and their noodles were better too. All that aside...
Honestly this place is under appreciated. They have better kbbq than gogi or kpub. The food has great flavor, it's a good value for Anchorage, the staff have been great when we've been. I'd definitely recommend this place for Vietnamese, hotpot, or kbbq.
