The best meal I had while in Alaska. We came in early September on a girls trip. Group of 5 was easy to find space to sit, even in this quaint little spot. The service was amazing, and the food was even better. I had the Half pound of snowcrab, which was incredible, and the veggies that came with it are amazing and fresh. Id read that they had the best clam chowder in the area, and after ordering a cup for myself I tend to agree. It's a must visit in my opinion!

Oh this hidden, secret, magic, awesome gem of a place? That hides a French trained chef? This is the one. The leather couches are something else, love how comfy they are, and inclusive.
I had Dungeness crab steamed with best veggies on this side of America- not just the US. So good I had two pounds. Absolutely perfect cook on that crab and the vegger- if possible even better. And priced, $100 less than you would pay in Anchorage. I set at the Humpy’s downtown and this sleek dude on a first date orders red crab- one pound steamed- $170. What was the best, his date orders shrimp tacos and goes- I don’t really like crab- something about the texture. Oh. That. Must. Have. Hurt.
So if you want to impress anyone your life and not drop $170+tax-side; he had to order a side separately; so come to this joint and impress yourself and someone for far less. 1 lbs of crab with sides, and butter, and microgreens, and a cup of chowder, and beer, and a glass of wine- $125.00 with tip (please tip generously), since you are here on vacation. You know you can.

Wednesday evening…

Our dining experience at Base Camp was delightful! We indulged in the Ahi Poke Bowl and devoured a generous pound of crab, making it the ideal meal for two. The Ahi Poke Bowl was simply divine, and cracking into the crab was both entertaining and delicious. Zoe, our knowledgeable and attentive server, not only educated us on the different types of crabs but also enhanced our overall dining experience. We highly recommend Base Camp to everyone looking for a satisfying and enjoyable meal!

This is a cute little place. We had the ahi appetizer which was pretty good. They were busy but the server did a good job taking care of us. The halibut was ok but under seasoned. The cajun pasta was ok. Rib eye sandwich is like a cheese steak on sourdough. It could have had more flavor and was a little on the greasy side. So overall the service was very good and the food was good but not amazing.

A-MAZING. I stopped here on my way to Seward for lunch and couldn't be happier. The crab was transcendent, the mussels were to kill for, and the small strawberry goat cheese salad with chicken was a perfect dish. Honestly, I wish I wasn't just passing through —I would be here for dinner in a heartbeat. Worth the trip for the food alone, and the service is *so* kind and personal. The location is super cute and cozy, with so much charm. Definitely do yourself a favor and stop by.

The food was wonderful. Great taste, good seasoning and nice presentation. Friendly and efficient staff - knowledgeable too. Sarah drives the culture and mood of the place and we enjoyed it very much. Small but a very lively place. Open kitchen style. Interesting eclectic knick knacks on the wall. Generous with lemons considering it is expensive here🙂. The only feedback I have is maybe remove the Buddha statue from the restroom (some people worship).

Just outside the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood, if you hiked the Virgin Creek Falls Trailhead and need to refuel there is a restaurant called Base Camp that will do the job.

We had the Alaskan Burger, which are two patties of pure goodness. Our other burger was the Cheeseburger which is exactly what I needed. I substituted the chips for salad.

To wash it all down, we had a couple of Rainiers, because when in Alaska, you keep it local as I'm told.

Service was friendly, fast, and had a relaxing vibe. I would love to come back again during ski season.
