A great place to stop off and grab lunch or to go drink. The place smells absolutely heavenly when you walk in. Stop in when I left Seward on my way back to Anchorage, AK. They have beautiful views of the water. Wish I had more time to sample all the things on the menu. Right off the main highway
Stopped here after a day of fishing... Have eaten at the one in Anchorage (closed) but this is the original. The staff is super friendly and funny... There was only three people running the place and they hustled to make it a great experience. I like their barbeque because it is a dry rub.. this time I tried something new... Fresh deep fried pork rinds! If you like chicaronies, try these.. they come out of the fryer fresh and hot, still popping and crackling! So much fun to eat. Will be back again for sure!
Great food and friendly service, highly recommend.
Delicious BBQ conveniently located south of Anchorage on the way to/from Girdwood with a hilariously appropriate name (for the location). Enjoyed lunch before heading home after a great week in Alaska with family. Wasn't looking for great BBQ in Alaska since we have plenty of choices at home, but was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Good smokiness in the meats and delicious sauces as well.
Our family of four enjoyed a variety of BBQ including a beef brisket sandwich, baby back ribs (a little dry towards the ends), a "barnyard #4" with St. Louis ribs and brisket, and a pulled pork "meat lovers" meal. All their meat is prepared without sauce and several options of sauce are offered on the side; our favorites were the spicy and mustard sauce. We chose macaroni and cheese, smoked beans, and corn bread as our sides which were all delicious. When we arrived around 2:30 pm we were seated at the bar due to all the tables being occupied. The bar chairs were comfortable and there was plenty of room. Our server Scott checked on us often. Additionally, a local surfer reports anticipated, exceptional bore tide times in Turnagain Arm and they are posted behind the bar. This meal almost got our teens full ;)
We appreciated the creative menu and friendly speedy service.
Next to Brown Bear Saloon and Inn has good service and very good BBQ food. Enjoy! You have a nice view too.
Had brisket and slaw. Brisket is always tricky because it’s easy to get dry shoe leather, but happily this was good with a nice fat ratio. The slaw was vinegar slaw, and had a nice sharpness but maybe needed more seasoning. Also tried the baked beans and cornbread, which were good. It was a nice lunch stop on our way to Anchorage.
Amazing BBQ! I loved the cole slaw and potato salad. We came in relatively close to closing time and every was fast and so friendly.
My smoked brisket and or smoked pork butt is by far the best, but if i dont have time, Turnagain armpit bbq is my go to, they get close to my quality and expectations of what BBQ should bealso there staff are very friendlyA great dining experience

We went as a family of 7 asking to be seated on the deck in the shade. We were told no by the server, Tiffany that those tables (2 tables of 4) had to be left for others because they "were going to get busy" and we would have to eat inside if we wanted to not be in the sun, even though there were only two other tables occupied at the time. We did eat inside and had a good server there. While eating our food other patreons came and went and a party of 2 and a party of 3 where offered the tables we had asked for. So instead of a total of 7 customers Tiffany got 5 out of the 8 seats available. Not to mention there were multiple 2 person tables unoccupied, instead couples were seated at 4 person tables that we weren't allowed to use. We purposely chose to go there to show out of town guests the view along with the food. While the food was what was expected, the ordeal for seating left us very disappointed with the experience and we don't plan on returning nor will I be suggesting it to others. I gave it 2 instead of 1 because the server we ended up with did well and the food was okay.
My daughter and I have driven from Kasilof to Anchorage for her chemotherapy every week since the beginning of January. Every single time we passed by we said “we’re going to eat there one day”. Well, today was the day! And boy was it worth it!! It was the best baby back ribs and pulled pork we have ever eaten! And for someone who doesn’t eat much, my daughter ate her whole sandwich with a huge smile on her face! The staff was great also!! We will definitely be returning!!
Great food! The crispy ribs on appetizer menu are to die for! And the view is just incredible! We usually stop by every trip to Anchorage, even if it's just to get some pulled pork or brisket to take home. Will not be disappointed!
Great spot friendly staff. Food meat very tender I tried both BBQ sauces I preferred spicy. Coleslaw was amazing love it perfect amount crunch and sauce. Mac n cheese homemade soul food for sure. Views are amazing and they have booze if you enjoy beers, cocktails, even some cider.
Staff is friendly and I love the food. Cubano takes a while to cook but worth the wait. Just wish the restaurant was open every day.
