I ordered a cup of their house roast coffee. I asked for them to leave room for cream in the cup. They filled the cup to the rim and the coffee was nothing memorable, although it was pretty good. Their prices are fair and their staff members are nice people.

The coffee I got this time and the last time I went here has more of a watery taste and not much flavor. I make better coffee at home for a lot cheaper. Someone needs to open a coffee shop in this town with actual good coffee.

As a local, I love to support small businesses, however I cannot endorse this shop. The owners are lovely, but the quality of the coffee and food is not up to par. I know many of the reviews are positive, but local opinion of this shop is low. Homer has so many excellent coffee shops that the standard is high. I only visit Captain’s because they are the only coffee shop with plenty of tables and space to sit-down. There is a feeling of haste in the service, so much so that I’ve had requests for whipped cream, extra shots, etc overlooked by accident. Furthermore, when I ordered a beef wrap, I found a 2x3 inch chunk of fat inside. That aside, the food is bland, lacking the complex flavor profiles and care that one usually finds in Homer coffee shops and resultants. I am acquainted with some of their staff, and can vouch that there is little to no standard for who they hire, and they charge top dollar for food and coffee made by people with little to know experience.

Captain's is a the local hot spot. Drop in if you want to get a pulse on what's happening in Homer.They have good clean food (they cook with butter) and excellent coffee they roast themselves. Plus friendly staff who get to know their customers. They also make their own sourdough bread on occasion -- it usually sells out -- and is just as good (sometimes better) than Two Sisters, which is also very good (but has done away with their indoor seating).

I ordered a Breakfast Special on that day it was Reindeer Sausage, 2 eggs, home fries, and toast. The server took the wrong toy, order indicator. She took the orca, not the horse. Our order was the horse.They ran out of the special and did not remove it from the board or communicate to anyone that they were out of the special. Order arrives lukewarm after 45 minutes of waiting for the food to come out of the kitchen. The eggs were burnt, the toast was dry and chewy, also to top the breakfast the homefries were still raw, and the bacon was burnt.They refused to give our money back for the order we prepaid, that is how they operate. We also got a salty attitude from the staff who work there when we asked about our order. Will come back to Homer, but not to this place. Also the coffee is mediocre, the coffee should be good quality, it was not up to Alaskan standards of coffee.

I don't know how to express how awesome this place is, but i absolutely loved it! Music choice was on key, owner was lovely and accommodating, freshly roasted coffee beans were priced perfectly! Anytime I'm in Homer, this is the only place I'm getting coffee!

We loved this sweet place! The coffee and breakfast foods were all excellent, plus we felt like we were among locals rather than in another touristy spot. Just like with many other places in Alaska, they seem to be short staffed so it took a while to be able to place & receive our order but it was worth it and we were in vacation mode anyways. Definitely recommend.
