My husband stayed at the ISL while out of town for work. He was gone on his birthday. I called up the front desk on Tuesday evening and asked if they could possibly do something special for him on his birthday (the next day). They had cupcakes for him, made a card of printed off pictures of my kids and I that I emailed (Christina’s idea!), balloons, and snuck up on him in the bar and sang happy birthday to him. Great Food, and fantastic local feel. Well worth the effort
So … on our visit to Icy Strait Point … Hoonah AK … on an Alaskan cruise, we happened upon this place just outside of town. This place has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent food and beer ….

Icy Strait Lodge, located in Hoonah Alaska, is a popular dining option during the winter months. The lodge offers trivia night every Wednesday and while meals can be expensive, they are reasonably priced considering the remote location and shipping costs. The service is exceptional, with deep knowledge of local fishing and warm hospitality. The halibut fish and chips are amazing, with a perfect amount of fry and awesome home made tartar sauce. The chefs are great, very friendly and accommodating. The care and pride taken in the establishment is second to none. The scenic views of the mountains and bay are absolutely stunning. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a genuine taste of Alaska, rather than the main street touristy spots.
