Good breakfast
We have very few choices for good restaurant dining in Ketchikan. I'm always hopeful when a new restaurant opens
This past Saturday was my first time to Portside. I was there with three others for a total of four. We all ordered burgers. I don't need to mention the type of burgers we ordered as they all came with the same, stale bun. A burger is basically two components...meat and bun. Regardless of what else is added to a burger, if the meat or bun is not good, the burger will underwhelm. The buns on all four of our burgers were so stale they literally began breaking apart while holding in our hands. The other components of the burger were great, but overshadowed by a nasty, dry, stale, crumbling bun.
You have one time to make a good first impression. Portside seems to be another of the many mediocre restaurants in Ketchikan. I will not give them the opportunity for a second impression. On a positive note, our dogs were very happy when they received a burger treat later that day.

Ordered the blue canoe burger. The burger was to salty. The patties were not smashed like the menu said, 1/2 in thick and 2 in in diameter. There was more bun than burger. The waitress seemed to have forgotten about me in the corner they stuck me in. I believe her name was Anna. There was hardly anyone in the pub this evening so no excuse for lack of service. I rarely write reviews but I felt this needed to be addressed.

We went to go have dinner my family of 3. We sat down for over 15mins and were completely engorged. No one brought us a high chair, menus. The young girl at the bar was so rude to us when we walked out. We will not be returning.

Literally 30 feet from my hotel room on the 2nd floor so ate here frequently. Overall great atmosphere for a local bar feeling. Staff was mostly great, best was 'Cyra' (sp?). Some of the food was fantastic, including the hummus and chicken wings. But the chowder, and the Greek wrap were bland. Three nights in a row didn't have the rubber, which is a bit weird to advertise something you don't have.

The Portside Pub & Grill was excellent. A group of friends went there after a day of deep sea fishing. The food was great, the location was very convenient, and the atmosphere was fun. I was surprised by hell impressive the menu was at still reasonable prices.
I would definitely come here again. I would recommend the Wagyu sliders. The bacon jam is delicious.

The new Management has done a great job with the Portside Pub recruiting an impressive head chef and implementing a tasteful face lift.
Highly recommend the seared tuna, sliders and halibut Olympia.

Went with 2 other ketchikan locals and we were not fans of the rebranding. Menu is a lot smaller now & our first food choices they were sold out of and our second choices came out missing some ingredients. Asked 2 separate waiters for sugar for our tea 3 times and got nothing. No drink refills. Big chunks of crab shell in the snow crab mushrooms. The $20 burgers just weren't very good. I loved the food before the rebrand, seems like they are trying to appear fancy so they can get maximum money out of tourists :(

I really hope management reviews these because there is 5 star restaurant potential.
Pros: BURGERS: Everyone in my party that got burgers loved them. They were juicy and seasoned well.
FRIES were also heavily complemented.
DESSERTS were delicious.
ATMOSPHERE is great. The new design and decorations are beautiful and very inviting.
Cons: SERVICE. While servers were very pleasant, we were the only people in the restaurant and had to ask for sauce 4 different times. Also (not sure if this is server error or policy that should be changed) we ordered appetizers and watched them sit for 20 minutes while the rest of the food was made, and then they were brought out with the entrees. Appetizers are generally ordered and expected before the entrees come out.
STEAK: We were not asked how we wanted our steak cooked, which is ok. Normally I'm a medium rare person, but I will eat anything rare to medium well. I've been to places that did not ask but the house standard cook is almost always somewhere between medium rare and medium well. Our steak was well done. Grey, dry well done. It's one thing to not be asked about cook temp preference, but the standard cook should never be well done. It was seasoned well but hard to eat.
SALAD: The salad seemed like it was washed but not drained so the salad dressing was watered down and didn't stick to the ingredients, leading to a salad that tasted like water.
Like I said, there is so much potential and I truly believe a great restaurant is there. But this particular experience was not a great one.
