After reading the reviews and looking at the pictures I was very excited to try this place. First it's hard to find, it's not a cart, but in a gift shop.
Second, after coming in with a smile ready to try some chowder, I get the sense they are sold out. Waited until the person behind the counter wasn't distracted and asked, if they are sold out. Was met with a very rude, "I'm closed for the day". Which I responded alright, you have a great day. It's sad when the public is nicer than the businesses.
I was able to spend my money at other local eateries, so that was good.

Honestly one of the best chowders I’ve ever had (if you like spice!)

We stopped in while touring Sitka. We ordered 2 cups of chowder that came with bread. The chowder was very good, although I would have preferred the chorizo not be included. It was just enough to satisfy our lunch craving and continue touring the museums and enjoy the sites of Sitka.
We were encouraged to visit the Ludvig's Mediterranean Bistro. Reviewing their menu and prices, the bistro was out of our budget. Since we're sailing in Alaska aboard our own boat, I can cook Alaskan cuisine more economically.
Having the option of enjoying Ludvig's chowder was perfect. I definitely suggest making a stop - if you're lucky enough that they are open. In addition to dining inside, you can get your order to-go and sit outside and enjoy the waterfront.

Parking: There appeared to be ample parking.

Kid-friendliness: I assume it was kid-friendly. However, the menu was focused on specialty sandwiches and chowder

Wheelchair accessibility: The entry and interior was all one level floor

Shocked at the quality. We like good. We love very good. This place is expensive (as is most of Sitka); but I called this 'Vegas expensive'. It was worth every penny. The staff is fun & knowledgeable. Everything was timed marvelously; and the quality amazing (portions = huge+) We had calamari, Linguini, and Ravioli. All portions were large and flavorful. I struggled with the 5 star (only because of the pricing, and there was no 4.5 star); but I'd go back and pay the price again. I'd just go back with a bigger appetite.

We made reservations(a must) for a special evening dinner while on our 3 day visit to Sitka. The waitress was superb, Anna i believe. We appreciated that she let us know the portion size was quite large---we had appetizers and shared the fish dinner special that night. One of the best meals of our trip. Easy walk from the Sitka Hotel, and nice to walk back after a filling delicious meal. We will be eating here again when we return to Sitka.

So glad we tried the chowder from Ludwig's! So creamy with a kick and it's one of the best chowders we've ever had. Sitka was one of our ports of call on our cruise and after a day of strolling the parks and the museum, we passed by this cozy place with benches and tables outside for a spectacular view of the water. Very accessible and is just a walking distance from the port. Highly recommended!

This review is for Ludvig's Chowder Cart at the Science Center. My local buddy took me and my other buddy from the Southwest here for lunch after morning fishing. We ordered two bowls of the chowder, two of the prosciutto - provolone sandwiches, and three cookies with drinks and there was more than enough food for all of us and we had leftovers. Clam chowder was great and had a good spicy kick to it (green Chile would have been nice as well). The sandwiches were great and the chocolate chip cookie with blueberry sea salt was very tasty as well. Chowder comes with with bread for dipping too. Worth a stop for some great food and outdoor seating.

The best bowl of chowder ever. The chorizo hits just right and adds so much umami to this bowl. And the fresh potato bread, holy buckets!

Underrated chowder cart experience. Just off the seaside trail, Ludvig's was open for hot seafood chowder and fresh bagettes. Best chowder I've tasted, slightly spicy and creamy deliciousness. Bread is fresh and wonderful for dipping. On par with Sitka pricing - not cheap in other words. $10.95 for a cup with bread. Fast, warm meal to sustain a rainy Sitka summer hike.

Again a local suggested the clam chowder. Move over Boston. The best clam chowder ever. And the view outside was incredible.
