We visited Valdez at the very end of the summer season and the town had very few visitors in evidence. Our campground owner recommended the food trucks in the area and a couple of sticks-and-bricks restaurants. Because the whole time we were in Valdez was damp, chilly, and rainy, we wanted to eat lunch in a warm, dry place. We had already eaten at the recommended restaurants and did not want to repeat our visits or eat outside at the food trucks in the rain and chilly temps. So we did a dumb thing and walked into Mike’s Palace. There was one guy at the bar and no other patrons. The hostess/ server was friendly and attentive. The food was terrible. My husband ordered the day’s special: fish (cod) and chips and I ordered a cheese burger and fries. His lunch special cost $23 and my burger was around $20. What he got was 3 preformed and frozen fish cakes (remember Gorton’s from the box during your childhood?) and fries. I received a burger (think: the value packs of pre-formed burgers from a discount grocery store) with 2 squares of processed cheese food riding on top. Eating out is very expensive in Alaska, but we felt this meal really was at the bottom of the barrel for quality and flavor based on what we spent. The atmosphere made the whole experience worse. The dining room was paneled in dark wood, the seating was old, as was the carpeting underneath. The 1970’s disco music tract playing in the background was the icing on the cake for a really unpleasant dining experience.

My honey and I took a day trip to valdez. The journey there was great, and the journey back was better, we walked around the dock and took in the fresh air. Then I was googling for a place to eat, then came upon mikes palace it's a nice quiet place to have late lunch
I had the blackened salmon, and she had the baked salmon. Those are the portions of the salmon, kinda wish they had more, but we were tired and want to go home, but I savered the meal

We stopped Den for lunch, and they weren't very busy, but the food was outstanding. I would say definitely put this stuff on your list if you spend any time in Valdez .

If there was less than 1 star…. That would be my review. We arrived at 7:30, was seated after waiting 20 min then told we would not be served due to kitchen was closed. She said kitchen closes at 8. It wasn’t 8. What a disappointment. My review…. Don’t bother going.
Don’t waste your money or your time! The restaurant was practically empty when we walked in and it still took us forever just to get seated. Once seated, they filled our waters without a single word and disappeared for minutes. The server was very rude, saying things like “I guess I’m your server”, “oh I forgot about the garlic bread…but you don’t need it!” and last of all insulting us when we finished our food. Which the food was sub par, everything needed more seasonings and their pasta was extremely over cooked. They also never filled up our water glasses once they were empty. She took forever to get us our check, so we ended up getting a different server to help us out. Glad they had an option to check out online, but had a hard time getting it to load.

An excellent dinner (mixture of halibut, salmon and shrimp on spaghetti with a good sauce) fresh and well served.
Good service and quickly served.
Friendly setting.

Terrible, honest. There was cobwebs on the roof I saw, my pizza tasted awful as well. There was barely any sauce as well. The salad was very salty and made me feel like I needed water. Though the service was polite, she was very sweet otherwise I wouldn’t go here it was way better 2 years ago. (Food also came fast)
Parking: was pretty good, If you get there before lunch or dinner.
Kid-friendliness: was sweet towards child. I suppose.

My husband and I ordered Salmom Alla Carta Cedro. It was the best salmon on our Alaskan trip. Great job, chef! Also we had to oay wit a different cc, so we thought we left it in our vehicle but a very kind and honest waitress found us on the street. we were so glad to have it back.
Restaurantji Recommends
I used to love coming here. Last two years prices have skyrocketed, and quality has taken a nose dive. My fiends dish was still frozen on inside. Can’t get pizza or only a large. And the pizza quality is now not better than frozen pizza. Had a quesadilla chicken, the chicken had zero flavor it was like boiled chicken. I no longer recommend this restaurant. Sad I used to look forward to eating here.
Long wait for service, food and bill. I was hoping that a sea port known for their fishing industry would have good seafood. I ordered the blackened halibut. It was not only not blackened, but was put in an oven and cooked to death! Nothing was seasoned including the garlic bread! With a decent chef this could be a good restaurant. It could use efficient staff as well. Very disappointed!

Decent place. It was busy and took forever to get food/drinks. Went to use the bathroom and there was a weirdo in there saying it was "hos bathroom" and kicked me out when there are two stalls and it's a multi-use bathroom. Brought it up to the waitress and they just shrugged it off and did nothing about it. The food was good when we finally got it. But the wait and the bathroom weirdo made it not worth it. Mostly the weirdo in the bathroom. Will not be returning.

Extremely disappointed!! Long wait after being seated to place order. Out of pizza had to wait again but finally able to order the special- Fish and Chips. Food finally came. Fish tastes like it was a frozen product rather than fresh. Had one bite of food. Leaving with a large tab and no dinner.

Worst place to eat in Valdez. I tried to play it safe and got something on the menu that said it was a local favorite, I can't see how. Everything was over cooked, the shrimp, halibut, salmon and scallops. Very small portions, I wasn't even remotely full, 45 dollars... Are you crazy. Over priced!! A bottle of barefoot wine 44 dollars.... Worst place, do not go. Totem Inn is the best place that we found to eat. Mikes, the worst!
10 years later, still horrible.
