Northern Treats is a simple ice cream spot in Valdez offering vanilla, chocolate, and twist soft serve, along with specialty sundaes and milkshakes. While the service can be slow, the 1964 Earthquake Shake is amazing, though it can be messy when served in a cone. The ice cream options include flavors like strawberry and pineapple, and there are plenty of toppings available. As the only ice cream place in Valdez, it is a great choice for dessert after a meal at The Potato. Kids can even receive free ice cream coupons from the Harbormaster for wearing their lifejackets. Although they only accept cash, an ATM is nearby at Safeway. The restaurant opens late in the evenings and has tons of parking, but lines can be long on nice summer nights.
