Old Black Bear Brewing Athens

We went yesterday evening and I was very disappointed. My daughters and granddaughter water smelled like fish , I don’t know if it was the glass or water. The host said he couldn’t smell it but everyone at the table did. It must be tap water. Our French fries were old and cold we could not eat them.
Basically our host avoided us and I think it’s because we were a mixed race because he sure was waiting on other tables and just kept passing us by. Although he seemed to be a nice person O should not have to ask for a refill twice.
When we got there there was very few people but yet it took us about 35-40 minutes to get our food.
When we first started going there after games it was such a great place. Everyone was so nice and attentive and I bragged to everyone about this place, even brought family from out of town.
But after yesterday’s experience I can say I will never go back. I know I’m just 1 person and my opinion won’t matter much. But I can not in all honesty can not go eat at a place where I am made to feel that because of my race service given to us doesn’t matter.Do better for your guest.

Great atmosphere, good food and beer, but the service is a bit on the slow side. Not the server's fault, just not enough of them. I'd go again.

Phenomenal brunch!

Checked out Old Black Bear last night for dinner. It was awesome! Service was good . I couldn't make up my mind so I ordered the American burger, Fried green tomatoes and a pretzel. The fried green tomatoes were to die for!!! The pimento cheese is the best I've ever had. What a great twist. I couldn't believe how large the pretzel was and the beer cheese was also very good. The hamburger was flavorful. Of course I brought most of it home because there was so much. Left overs for a couple of days! Will definitely go back. Give it a try you won't be sorry. Keep up the good work.

Excellent service from the lovely brunette bar hostess! My steak was cooked to my liking. The salad was good. The price point for my meal was really good. I loved the atmosphere, as well! Would highly recommend! -Erik

Great service and friendly staff. I like this location much better than the Madison one. Plenty of room, clean new building, and there is never the 1-2 hour wait to be seated. The chicken fettuccine Alfredo was excellent too.

Amanda was our server, she was so nice and attentive to our needs. We definitely will be back.

Incredible food and atmosphere! My husband and I love it, especially the fried green tomatoes!

Great food and beer!

Although I have enjoyed this restaurant often in the past and may be back, today I was very unsatisfied with a particular problem. We came for brunch and they have a specialty section with the option of steak and eggs. the description says 8 oz ribeye with three eggs. Due to medical conditions the cut of meat and temperature It is cooked to is very important for me. I requested that my ribeye be cooked to medium rare. They served me a round steak that was cooked all the way through. It was not a ribeye and not medium rare. I don’t feel this is ethically okay as round steak is significantly different than ribeye. It’s false advertising and had I known, I would have ordered something completely different. My sweet husband swapped food with me because after waiting quite a while for our food we were starving and just ready to leave. I don’t think this is a bad restaurant but that menu issue should definitely be addressed.

Old Black Bear is a great addition to Athens. Excellent atmosphere and food/drink options. I had the Cheeseburger and Sweet Potato fries and my wife had the Loaded Bar Chips. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were more than enough.
