After reading all the negative reviews on this place, I was hesitant on visiting but SO glad we did!!! People are miserable and always looking for something to complain about. The coffee and pastries were absolutely delicious. And the vibe in there is perfect. Could the staff have been nicer? Sure? I guess? But we all can. The man that helped us was very kind and for me personally, I don’t expect Disney World service when I’m ordering a croissant and a latte. But maybe that’s just me. Give people grace. Prices were reasonable too! Overall great experience.

My husband and I spent $34 this morning on two small galettes, a cup of coffee and a half loaf of bread. The coffee and galettes went in the garbage - hoping the bread is edible. The galettes were STONE COLD and EXTREMELY hard and heavy - they had barely any filling at all - they were mostly tasteless, hard, cold dough. The coffee was not drinkable. Perhaps this used to be a charming place - but currently it looks old, dirty and has an overall sad and uncared for feeling. The plants outside are dead and cigarette butts were on the ground around the outdoor tables. The interior was dark and dusty feeling. It looked liked it had not been cleaned or swept in years. I was concerned about eating anything from a place that looked this shabby. I don't understand why this place is popular.

Continental Bakery is a gem! The pastries taste fresh and homemade, and the bread is some of the best I’ve ever had. The place has a warm, European-style atmosphere and the staff is welcoming and friendly. Great spot to relax with coffee and a sweet treat. I will definitely be coming back again.

The new Owners have RUINED what was B’ham’s finest bakery for decades. You suck, 2025 Continental. Bye forever.

For the third and last time, I PRE-ORDERED & PRE-PAID for olive bread 2+ days in advance, as required, and for the THIRD and LAST time, when I showed up at 8:30 to pick them up, THEY HAD SOLD MY LOAVES.

B’ham, LET THIS PLACE FAIL, AND SOMEONE WILL SWOOP IN TO FILL OUR TUMMIES THE WAY THE PREVIOUS OWNER WOULD. Bye, Continental! Your quality has gone way down on your other items too, fyi.

I was really excited to try this bakery. Unfortunately, the pot de creme was made with coffee, and I didn't think to ask so I wasn't able to eat it. The palette was delicious! The sandwich was pretty basic and I didn't realize it wouldn't come with sauces. The sandwich bread was good though. I bought some other things too. The pies look fantastic!

I would probably come here again, but only for specific items. The pricing was pretty fair.

The person who served me seemed fairly impatient. Never having been there before, I wasn't sure how to order everything.

The shop isn't very newcomer friendly
All you could see was what they had on display even though they had drinks and sandwiches
They had three parts of a menu that was in very small font and if you didn't know they had something you didn't know we were there 20 minutes and just happened to overhear they had sandwiches
And had to ask for the sandwich menu because it wasn't on display
They have a website but it also wasn't on display so if you don't know you wouldn't know unless you just happened to look but even that it didn't have a list of drinks or the sandwiches and it looked to have been a couple of years out of date because they prices were wrong
A third of their baked goods were shortbread cookies
You also couldn't see prices for the bread

We were so thrilled to find this place on our 1 day road trip to Alabama. The Trans sticker on the door made us feel instantly at ease.
There was a line, but it moved pretty quickly. The pastries were so good, that we got back in line a second time. We bought some bread that was fabulous!
I wish, so much, that Memphis had something like this.
If you like Dunkin’ Donuts, this isn’t the place for you. Their pastries are made with real ingredients and love, not processed nonsense and machines.

A taste of Europe in the south. Many sweet treats and goodies to choose from. The double toasted sesame bagel with olive cream cheese was SO good.
