I always enjoy the food here. But the wait times are horrible. To wait in line for at least half an hour and the food is being served buffet style (Not cooked to order)? Why? I can't make sense of why the line moves so slow. Ruins the entire experience. I could get in and out of a short order restaurant in less time than you have to stand in line to carry-out food here.I had plenty of time to write a lengthy review as I wait in line. They might be getting the last of my business today.Parking: Parking along the street both sides. Few (5) at side of building difficult to access.Wheelchair accessibility: Building is cramped, would not be very accessible. It's standing room only most times.

My wife & I visited Eagle's Restaurant for the 1st time yesterday. I've been hearing great things about this place for years, so I had to include it in my historic restaurant month (highlighting restaurants that have been in business 50 years or more over at my foodie Instagram account for the month of October). This soul food restaurant has been in business for 72 years & has acquired some impressive press during that time: yahoo.com's "9 Tastiest Soul Food Spots in the US", dish # 4 on al.com's "Top 55 Dishes You Must Eat in Birmingham", highly praised on "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern" just to name a bit. My wife & I both had the baked chicken & dressing with cranberry sauce. I had sides of collard greens & fried corn, my wife had candied yams & green beans. We were both blown away by how incredible every dish was! The chicken was succulent & seasoned down to the bone. A bite of the chicken, dressing & cranberry sauce all together was pure heaven. Salty, sweet goodness. I really enjoyed the fried corn. It was crunchy yet creamy. Phenomenal texture. The collard greens were also exceptional. Everything was seasoned so well. My wife really enjoyed the candied yams, but they were a tad sweet for my taste. Purely subjective. The green beans would rival ones made by any of our grandmothers. The plates also came with excellent cornbread. Truly a perfect Sunday meal (two meals, portions are huge). We also had to try the homemade mini sweet potato pie. Terrific way to finish our meal. Not overly sweet, absolutely superb fall dessert. Eagle's Restaurant is FANTASTIC. An unsuspecting spot serving some of the best food I've ever enjoyed. The staff was super friendly. I'd heard it's wise to arrive when they open or be prepared to wait & I'd say that's definitely a fact. We arrived right at opening & there was already a line across the restaurant. There are some booths inside, but I'm not sure dining in is an option as everyone was getting their orders to go. We followed suit & took our plates to Railroad Park for a delightful alfresco dining experience. If you haven't been yet, GO TO EAGLE'S! It's good for the soul.
