Food, decor, service, and atmosphere is excellent. Their bar is terrible. Understaffed, poor layout, margarita glasses are tiny (two sips and it’s empty). Over priced, takes forever to get a drink, drinks are small, etc.

We wanted to lick the plates! Had the combo fajitas! Super-cali-fragilic-expialidocious!!! The chips and salsa are UNIQUE and DELICIOUS! The service we received was THE BEST we've experienced in a LONG time ANYWHERE in Bham. If you go, ask for Fletcher and take ALL of his menu recommendations! You'll be glad you did! Thank you, Fletcher, for your wonderful attention to detail and for the great history lesson on the restaurant.

Really enjoyed my recent visit to El Royale. I ordered the chicken fajitas and an orange margarita on the rocks. They were both were great and exceeded my expectations. Our waitress was fun, informative, and quick to help us decide on some yummy options. The space was beautiful, both inside and out on the patio. The vibe was fun and laid back. A little extra I appreciated was the full jalapeño that came with the fajitas and the warm salsa for the table. Looking forward to putting El Royale into my restaurant rotation this year.

Excellent atmosphere and wonderful food. Used to be a plant nursery back in the day; good memories! I most recently went on a busy Friday night and while the service could’ve been a tad faster and more efficient, I believe they were doing the best they could. Food was outstanding. Great back area that pays homage to the property’s past life. Worth a visit!

We came here for our 3rd wedding anniversary and let me tell you it did not disappoint!!! Everyone down to the valet knew it was our anniversary. I have never had such amazing service, food, and drinks!! My husband and I will be coming back for dinner.

El Royale was the perfect place for date night! The atmosphere is moody, absolutely gorgeous, fabulous and the lighting is romantic. I had the chicken tinga enchiladas and they were divine! We ordered the dip trio for an appetizer and all of the dips were delicious, but the salsa that came with the chips was the best salsa I've ever had. Ever.
I highly recommend ordering the Flaming Royale cocktail and the Diamond Daquiri. Both were amazing! Our server, Chris L. was excellent.
I've found my new favorite restaurant in Birmingham, for sure!

Genuinely can’t remember leaving a dinner so horribly unsatisfied. We had a reservation for 10 that wasn’t able to be fulfilled when we got there—we had to sit at two different tables. One of the managers(?) brought us a dish with two exposed bandaids on his hand without a glove to cover them, which is a violation of Jefferson County Department of Health food safety codes. An unobtrusive request for a change on an item ordered was said to be a $10 up-charge. The bathroom trash wasn’t changed and was spilling out onto the floor. And we were told that our check couldn’t be split more than two ways—“parties this large can only be split two ways”. But we were seated separately, so it’s not really a single party anymore, right? But splitting the check that way locks us into a larger gratuity, so of course that’s what they wanted to do. It was an awful experience, the health code violations were glaring, and you couldn’t pay us to go back.

Was so excited to go after being invited there for dinner BUT left so disappointed. Be careful when entering the building if you are wearing 4+ inch heels or shoes with no grip. I almost bust my arse twice just walking to and from the table. The walk up is also not heel friendly. I love a spicy marg (always hits) but the one I had there was very blah and ugh. Food was lackluster and bland. . .sitting in grease or something. I didn't care to finish it. The scenery and setting were great. Loved the plants!! However, their music was so loud and I had to almost scream to be heard across the table. Thinking I won't be back.
