Back in August-2019, we had a fantastic meal at Fancy's. I had an excellent burger special that was loaded with perfectly paired, top shelf ingredients and my wife had a shrimp pasta dish that was also very good. We enjoyed the decor, drinks and local beer selection. We were told recently that they were closed. We hope that is temporary because we plan to come back the next time we are in Birmingham.

Amazing food and service. Hoping they open back up sooner than later. They will be missed.

Ordered takeout tonight. I'm vegetarian - ordered a burger with a Beyond patty with truffle fries and a side salad with no bacon on the salad. Got it home, tiny crumbles of bacon everywhere. Enough said.

Delicious food.. freshest oysters I’ve tasted this far from the coast! Will definitely be back! The burgers we had were all delicious as well!!

Love this place. Probably the best raw oysters I've ever had and the burgers are great. Pretty good steak as well.

My experience has always been great but last night the staff went above and beyond catering to us. The manager Scott is so amazing, he went across the street and got a heater for me. The bartender and the waitress were such a pleasure and everybody else had such a great spirit that is welcoming. I definitely will come back. Oh, and the food is amazing as well. They just need to bring back the beer carpaccio back please

Went there for my son's birthday & they had everything spaced out appropriately but it still seemed cozy. We had the hush puppies with pimento cheese & bacon jam plus the deviled eggs with bacon for appetizers. Then we had the B&B & El Guapo burgers which were fantastic. I had some fish & chips and the piece of fish was huge but still crunchy like I was expecting. The service was super & our waitress was very knowledgeable.

I was really looking forward to coming here since I had heard good things and I was excited to try it! Fancy's did not disappoint! There were four people in our party. We sat inside at a large table up front. We ordered our drinks and apps first. I got the key lime drink on the cocktail menu. It was great! So good I had two! For appetizers we had the baked oysters, tuna tataki, and crab dip. All three were really good. The baked oysters, however, stole the show! Wow, they were fantastic! For dinner, I got the sea bass. It was a generous portion of fish. It was cooked perfectly and delicious. It had some sort of slaw under it which I didn't think I would enjoy but it was really good. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food as well. Our server was excellent and checked on us just the right amount. He was attentive without being annoying. Unfortunately we were all too full to try dessert. Maybe next time because I can't wait to come back!

Have been wanting to come here for a long time, thanks to covid we can actually get a reservation.... sometimes you have to look at the small wins in a pandemic.... Well we were not disappointed... we had to reschedule our first reservation due to work issue.. so we moved it out one week... when we did get there they did not have our reservation.... now you would think this would be a huge issue and we would have to wait or come back... since this was a scheduling issue on their side they immediately found us a table, and not only a table but to us the best table in the house with the octopus above us on a round table.... we ordered 2 apps as we were with friends. They ordered the tuna and we ordered the crab cheese.... well another mishap happened... they brought out the tuna and baked oysters.... well they apologized and put in the correct second app... and of course we did get those amazing oysters at no charge since it was a mistake.... both the tuna and the crab cheese were amazing!!!!! Well worth the wait for this place. For my entree I got the filet and fries since I did not like the sides that came with it. The steak was nice and juicy, the seasoning was good but a little too salty... all in all this was a very pleasant evening out with good friends and great food!!! We all had mixed drinks with dinner, they were good and stout.... for me a little too stout... and I ordered a vodka lemonade which was not on the menu... I added a glass of lemonade to add the drink too so it was more palatable.... All in all I am glad we went here, this will be a regular addition to our rotation during these crazy times... As we all need to do what we can to support local businesses like this one, and i for one finally got to come here and we will be back..

We had dinner on Saturday during Pandemic 2020, early wave #3. I was pleased that they take reservations and are observing CDC protocols. Our reservations was for 6:30 and we were seated promptly. We sat in the outside patio for more openness. It was very loud partly because the patio has been enclosed for the winter. Out party of four started with drinks and appetizers. I was really pleased with my traditional Old Fashion. Kudos to the bartender, it had the right amount of sweetness. We ordered the Crispy Brussel Sprouts and Hush Puppies. Brussel were good and served on a cool triangle shaped plate. Hush puppies were good, and a little spicy. For my dinner I order the El Guapo. The burger is big, and served with fries. I like that their burgers are made with two patties instead on one large one. That probably helps cook it to the right temperature. I liked my burger and thought the fried jalapeños were a good idea. Service was pretty good. The only hiccups were our appetizers and entrees came out at almost the same time. And, the check had an extra drink charged on it. It was corrected, but a good reminder for wherever you dine. Review the bill, it is easy to have a mistake.

First visit back since the pandemic. It's seems as that some of the menu recipes had changed. I ordered the Lobster Roll with truffle fries. The roll had huge pieces of lobster meat but the truffle fries appeared to be regular fries , cold , sprinkled sparingly with cheese. In the past the first were well seasoned, crisp with a a bit more generous portion of cheese. I observed other diners orders to see if my order was an exception and it was not. I ordered the tuna dip as an appetizer. It was a generous amount of tuna with a huge amount of heavily toasted bread slices. The tuna was dry and the bread was hard. Previously the tuna dip was creamier, well seasoned with in house pita chips. It was soo good. I am going to wait awhile and return to try these items again. This was one of my favorite spots in Avondale and I really don't want to remove it off my list.

I figure a good time to update this review is after experiencing a takeout order during social distancing. Their online ordering system worked well and I was excited to celebrate national cheeseburger day with Fancy's on Fifth!I decided on the El Guapo and upgraded the fries with truffle. I mean, how can you not get a burger with chorizo in the meat and fried jalapenos?? I read for to-go orders that I needed to go to the window on the side patio. I am not sure if we were able to go inside to get to-go orders. But the signage seemed to indicate that they didn't want people standing by the bar. I'll clarify next time.I am going to look further into if you can pick up inside or test out calling for curbside. But the line at that window moved SO slow. There were 3 people in front of me and it took 20 minutes to get up there. But I know everyone is figuring out their processes. So I definitely won't hold it against them. Crazy times.Similarly, I have been giving a lot of grace on to-go orders for places that are very used to doing in person experiences. The burger was good for a to-go order. But the fries were just as good as if I ate there!! Can't wait until I feel good about coming back for an inside experience and get some oysters with my burger!!
