The sweet potato was cooked right and delicious. I highly recommend JaWanda's Sweet Potato Pies. The service was excellent, and the owner was very helpful with everything. The atmosphere was peaceful with beautiful colors. I loved the ambiance.

I've been buying the crusty cream cheese pound cake and the chocolate pound cake for a couple of years at Piggly Wiggly on Clairmont. Until recently they have been absolutely delicious. In the past month I have purchased the 1/2 chocolate pound cake. I'm pretty knowledgeable about and have a good eye for food, so I was a little concerned when I noticed a difference in the appearance. The cake looked a little dry, the icing looked wet, and the chocolate not a rich chocolate color as before. I bought it anyway and it ended up tasting as it appeared. Returned it for a refund and waited 2-3 weeks before purchasing another. It didn't look quite as bad as the other but not like previous cakes. Very disappointed when I got home. I've even tried refrigerating it, but that didn't help. I understand that everything has gone up in price, but I would rather pay more for the same quality than the same price for an inferior product. Would like to know if anyone else has the same complaint. Haven't tried the crusty cream cheese after this experience. Please go back to your original recipe and ingredients. I really miss these cakes.

You absolutely have to try these pies. One of the best things I’ve ever tasted. In addition to the amazing pies and cakes, the customer service here is absolutely impeccable. It was my first time visiting and I will, without a doubt, be returning for more! My grandmother passed away not too long ago. She use to bake sweet potato pies often and to walk in and not only smell that sweet smell of pies baking, but to also see one of my grandmother’s favorite scriptures across the wall “O taste and see that the Lord is good.” It felt like it was meant to be. Everything about this place made my entire morning!

"Awesome" Sweet Potato Pies. My wife and I tried Jawanda's for the first time this past weekend and we were thoroughly impressed. The Customer service is second to none. The "original" flavor sweet Potato is my personal favorite. The crust is the "absolute" best crust I've ever tasted. Treat yourself to JaWanda's the nest time you have a sweet tooth. Oh by the way my wife's favorite is the Chocolate Pound cake. Lastly the prices are reasonable.

I live in California and heard that JaWanda made the best Pie in Alabama. We stopped in Birmingham at JaWanda's Store. I meet her and found that she was a very friendly lady and was happy that us being from California heard about her pies... I bought an amazing full size Sweet Potato Pie and also took a photo with this very talented lady. I consumed the whole Pie and wished that I had bought more than one. This was by far the BEST sweet potato pie I have even had the pleasure of eating.
