Family and I had some time to to explore Birmingham before our flight home so we drove aimlessly around and first stumbled across Gatos & Beans (I did a complete review on that wonderful location). Emily recommended Joyland for a bite to eat as her establishment mainly served coffee and snacks.
Oh my GOSH, what a positive, upbeat, and tasty experience.
Joyland primarily serves Breakfast, Burgers, Hotdogs, drinks (they also have an impressively stocked bar,) and desserts.
The atmosphere is upbeat, friendly and inclusive. It gives off more of an eatery vibe than bar.
The menu has Gluten Free, and Vegetarian options. (I didn’t ask about vegan, sorry). Their crinkle cut fries are GF, crispy, and tasty.
The Cashier/server who helped us was Garret, Jake the General Manager also helped keep our order super fast and smooth.
When I again visit Birmingham, Joyland is already on my list of things to do.

Nothing beats a pumpkin pie shake at 9a. Food is a touch pricey relative to the amount you get.

My biscuit was yummy, but unfortunately, someone seems to have shaved themselves in the bathroom sink, and it doesn’t look like facial hair ☹️

Went to this restaurant on a Saturday the place was pretty busy but we were able to order and then sit at our table. The staff was very friendly and the service was great.we both ordered a k-dog which were excellent 👌🏾 and not normal menu items so we got lucky to catch them serving them today. The joyland burger deluxe was great as well, the patty was seasoned very well and had good flavor! I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone if you like burgers! We will definitely be back!!!

One of the best new burger spots in Birmingham!
Joyland in Birmingham is the kind of place you don’t just stumble upon—you hear about it, try it, and then can’t stop thinking about it. The vibe is playful and retro, but the food is all business—in the best way. I had the smash burger and it was perfectly crispy on the edges, juicy in the middle, and packed with flavor. The fries were hot, salty, and just right.
And don’t skip the waffle hashbrowns—seriously. They’re crispy, golden, and absolutely addictive. One of the most creative (and tasty) sides I’ve had in a while.
You can tell the team behind this place knows what they’re doing (Sean Brock doesn’t miss). Everything feels intentional, from the design to the service. It’s casual and fast, but still feels elevated.
Highly recommend grabbing a seat outside if the weather’s nice. Perfect spot for a quick lunch or a laid-back dinner that hits the spot. Birmingham needed a place like this—fun, fast, and seriously delicious.

Excellent burgers, much more prep and thought invested in them than in your run-of-the-mill hamburger. Yeah, I’m sure you have a crazy fun uncle who takes pride in making good burgers on July 4th weekend, but imagine if he were actually a professionally trained chef who knew the science behind burger making.
That’s what these Joyland burgers taste like. 👍

3rd visit (July 2025)... all I can say is I wish I lived closer to this restaurant. Ordered a Joy Burger Deluxe with Fancy Sauce, curly fries, peach pie, and sweet tea. Customer service (Deliesha) 10/10. Great atmosphere and excellent burger! Soft serve ice cream is great as well!
First time visit....What a fantastic little burger place. First time visit. A buddy and I met there for lunch on a Tuesday. Not very busy when we walked in but business picked up soon after. I wasn't sure what to order, and told the female cashier I had never been there. She was very friendly and offered several suggestions. I went with a double burger, with sauce on the side, not knowing if I'd like it. The burger, fries and sweet tea were all great. Definitely will return soon.

I was excited to try their burgers but I arrived too early for lunch. Instead I went with a bacon egg and cheese biscuit. The biscuit itself was great. There was a giant cube of an egg and some decent bacon. There was no one in line so I was thinking things would go quickly. Unfortunately, I waited a good 5-7 minutes for a COLD meal. They had a tasty unique jelly. I didnt ask the flavor but I didn't mind it. The biscuit was over $8.00 with tax. I imagine it would have been better at a warmer temp but given the wait and the fact that it was cold....and thr concealed egg square I just can't see myself rating them any higher.
