Every item here is just fantastic. The burgers are amazing. My go to is always the gyro. Try the mushroom appetizer and the baba ghanoush. Their fries are actually the best I’ve had anywhere. Friendly staff and above all very reasonable prices.

I dislike when businesses charge extra for using a credit card and don’t tell you that in advance. He tells me one price, charges me another, and then tells me that their policy is on the website. I’m not standing there looking at the website, I’m looking at you and when the price you say out loud and the price you charge are different, what am I supposed to think?! You didn’t tell me when I handed you a credit card that it would be more. What am I supposed to think?! Print that policy and put it on the counter or on the register so it’s obvious! Make sure customers understand— in advance— what to expect so you don’t piss them off!

You can't buy good hummus at a store. It HAS to be made fresh. I've been ordering the hummus and veggies to go from this Makarios for years and it is still my favorite. The veggies are always cut fresh and without a single blemish. I get the large and it is a generous portion. I have ordered several other dishes from here and have been just as pleased with the quality and speed worth which is prepared. Their lamb or beef kebobs are divine, the beef actually being steak and can be cooked to order. Both are quite tender. Let me again emphasize how FRESH everything always is, side salad, fruit bowl, even the dressings. I no longer live in the area but if I'm not passing through this is one of the places I sometimes make a special trip just for the food. The rice pudding has a lovely hint of rose water and the mango smoothie is my favorite of the smoothies. Mango is a hit or miss kind of flavor in general. If not done well it has a kind of chemical petroleum aftertaste, but if done well it is deliciously fresh without any lingering bitterness. I can assure that Makarios mango smoothies are the latter. Don't forget to tip.Vegetarian options: Almost everything on menu has vegetarian options. Also several items are vegetarian in their nature. Meat can easily be substituted out as well.Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian, vegan, paleo, ketoParking: Parking lot behind restaurant, a few free street side spaces, thru spot in front for pick up orders.Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp and large pull door.

Fantastic 1st-time dinner here, part dine-in and part to-go. Our server was kind and prompt, and the food runner as well. Deboned chicken was juicy, and the shish kafta was so flavorful. Birmingham has some fantastic, unassuming restaurants; and this is one of them!

Hanging out in Birmingham, AL on business for a few weeks and it's lunch time! How good can the Mediterranean be in Alabama of all places? Well, let's fine out!Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the corner of 20th Street South and 10th Avenue is this gem. It's well presented and looks super inviting. There is parking for a few cars in the front, but if I can remember there are more spots in the back or else, just park on the street since this is pretty close to downtown. Once inside the restaurant is pretty chill. There's LOTS of artwork hung up all over the place with plenty of straight up & down wooden booths to sit in. Once you walk in you can actually walk right up to a counter to place your order or you can choose table service of course. It was pretty chill in here the time that we came.Service: Service was just fine. Nothing crazy and he made sure that I had everything that I needed.Food: For my entree I went with the Shish Combo which comes with a shish kabob made of beef, shish tawook made of chicken and one kafta which is ground lamb, parsley and onion then served with a salad. Of course there's rice on the side. Everything was delicious, juicy, loaded with flavor and it felt authentic. The lamb was a lil' dry, but that was my only complaint. I loved the food here and it was SUPER filling for sure.Value: Back when I visited this combo was $28.59, but now it's $30.00. Not bad at all. Like I said, the food was filling so you could get more than one meal out of it and it was absolutely worth it.I'd certainly pay this place a return visit if I'm in the area. You should too!
