This morning, we stopped by McAlister’s Deli (Downtown UAB location) to grab a menu because we wanted the family members visiting with me, who had never had McAlister’s before to be able to look it over and decide what they’d like for dinner. When we walked in, it took 4–5 minutes before anyone even came to the front. Eventually, a gentleman appeared, looking around and saying aloud, “Where are my workers?” We explained we just wanted a to-go menu. He didn’t say they don’t have any, he simply pointed to a laminated copy and said, “Just take one of those,” which we did.
Later, I placed my order online, expecting a smooth experience but it was anything but. When we got back to our hotel (since we’re shuttling and don’t have a car), we discovered several problems:
• The Spud was completely dry with no cheese.
• The BLT Avocado came with no avocado or condiments.
• I requested Doritos as my chips, the online menu even let me select them but I received Cheetos instead.
I called the location to inform them about the issues and to arrange to bring the food back tomorrow in exchange for a refund — since returning that evening wasn’t realistic with our transportation situation. No one answered the first time, and when I called back and chose the catering prompt, a woman finally answered. She told me the location was already closed (at 8 PM) and said we could bring the food back which wasn’t realistic since we’re shuttled. Then she claimed they “told me” they don’t carry Doritos when I ordered, which is simply not true. I ordered online, and Doritos were shown as an option. If you don’t carry them, the website should not allow customers to select them.
When I mentioned how long it even took this morning just to get a menu, she started making excuses instead of taking responsibility. Im a Publicist in so I understand trying to save face but dismissing a frustrated customer who is already under emotional stress from being here for a family member awaiting a heart transplant is not the way to handle it.
She did say that the GM, Dustin, would refund me for the Spud and the BLT Avocado (without the avocado), which I appreciate but the experience overall was very disappointing. At this time I have not received the refund, nor has Dustin reached out, even though I left my name and phone number.
The McAlister’s locations back home provide excellent service and have updated menus readily available. I strongly urge this location to improve. You are in the heart of a major hospital, many of your customers are already dealing with difficult situations. The least you can do is get their meal right, own mistakes when they happen, and maintain a website that reflects what you actually offer.

Online orders always ready on time. Hard to find parking tho.
McAlister's is not the same. The last time I went was a few weeks ago and I won't be returning. Not only this one, but Lakeshore as well.

Tried to find a place to park within three blocks for 20 minutes. So finally I said the heck with it and left nowhere to park
Food & Service were good. Atmosphere? Not really. I think i was the only customer. This is an inner city McAllister. Parking was even a challenge.
A consistent lunch staple… my top two go to menu items are the loaded spud and the club sandwich with broccoli soup…
I came way from 280 with my mouth set for McAlister just for them to be closed a hour early. The door and online says 8pm. When I got there at 7 they were already closed.

Clean!! great atmosphere, and the nicest people
Awesome place with great service and great food.
They put corn, beef and bread in the microwave to heat it up by the time I got to my destination the bread was so hard. I had to throw the food away. I’ll never go back there again.
