Our waitress is super friendly and made us feel at comfort when it was our 1st time in Alabama and at Mudtown.I hardly eat fried pickles but Mudtown's fried pickles is beyond DELICIOUS!!! Fresh, crunchy and seasoned just right--LOVE IT!! The Shrimp and grits is really good. I went all out and got warm chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream drizzle with chocolate fudge syrup-- spectacular!! Definitely wouldn't mind coming back again!

Getting down in Mudtown! My wife & I checked out Mudtown for dinner last night. This was our 1st time dining here. Mudtown is located in Cahaba Heights & is the sister restaurant of The Ridge Eat & Drink. I had the Crab Cakes featuring 100% meat crab cakes with roasted corn relish, grits & garlic butter green beans. I'm particular when it comes to crab cakes. If what you're about to bring me consists of 70% crab & 30% red bell pepper, please miss me with that. I asked our server if that would be the case. She told me there's a little bit of red pepper, but she didn't find it to be an overwhelming amount. I took my chances & trusted our server...& I'm glad I did! These were some very good crab cakes! The predominant flavor was definitely crab with a hint of pimento. I also really enjoyed the green beans. They were still crisp, but tender & had nice flavor. The grits had a MASSIVE amount of garlic flavor. I don't mind that, but if you don't like garlic, I'd advise you to substitute them for another side, which your server will be happy to do. My wife had the Grilled Wings flavored with the dry bbq rub with a side of slaw. These wings are seasoned, smoked & then grilled. They have awesome flavor that permeates to the bone & are super tender. Oddly enough, they brought her all flats, which is something you usually have to request (team drums here). Our only note is that they could be a bit more crisp. If you're looking for a quiet, intimate setting, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a fun atmosphere, a good bar selection, GREAT food & a place to watch a ball game, you've found your place. Service was friendly & helpful. The bartender makes a damn good Kettle One & cran. Parking can be an issue. At the top of the menu it even says, "Great food, horrible parking!" I love a place that can poke fun & has a sense of humor about a somewhat unfortunate situation. Just go with expectations of walking up quite a hill, but a DELICIOUS meal being at the top & you'll be just fine!

Our waitress was Kay and she did excellent very knowledgeable about the menu and even with a large crowd she managed every one of her customers. I've been coming here for years and it is always a great place to eat. The atmosphere is casual and a lot of fun. The food is fantastic, I recommend the fried pickles if you've never had them.

Pueblo subpar. This may be a great place if you live around the area, but for somebody that stops in because it looks like a cool place, once you experience it, unless you already love it you're not going to fall in love with it because I can tell you, all it is is kids that are 15 years old working there and playing around too much and then oops, the food is middle of the road, nothing to write home about, nothing you couldn't do or better at your own stove

Bar ambiance but great food. Crabcakes are 100% crabmeat. Lots of families at lunchtime. They actually confess to terrible parking. Maybe that's the "mud" in the name. But now there's lots of gravel so it's not really muddy. I think they bought an additional gravel lot. The food is way more upscale than the appearance of the place. So go on in and give it a try.

I have had everything on the menu. This place is my second home. The perfect hole in the wall. An ever changing local draft selection. Amazing hospitality and the perfect representation of the Cahaba area. Below are my thoughts on the menu because I seriously wasn't kidding, I have eaten everything on the menu. Appetizers: The fried pickles is perfect for a large group, there are a lot of them. The sauce is amazing, ask for extra. The house chips are the best in my humble opinion. Some of the best homemade chips I have had. Again ask for extra sauce, thank me later. The wings to me are a meal. Sure you can share them but once you have one, you'll want the entire plate. Try the cahaba and dry bbq rub flavors. The fried green tomatoes and crab claws are some of the best in Birmingham. The tuna tataki is good just not the best choice in my opinion. Salads: To me the pecan crusted chicken is the best. Amazing chicken with the perfect vinaigrette. The Caesar is the perfect side salad and is an amazing meal if you add a crab cake to it. The heights house salad is a close second in the salads and is amazing with grilled chicken. The wedge is good I'm just not a fan of wedges! Sides: One of the best parts of mudtown. Amazing hometown fries. Their chips, again, are to die for. Their tater tots are perfect. The green beans, collards and slaw are all perfect light options. **GET THE GUMBO** Also, my personal favorite are the sweet potato waffle fries. They are heaaavenly. The best sauce is their white sauce. The honey mustard is a close second along with their pepper jelly. They seem to have a different sauce for every meal and it all perfectly complements each one. Burgers: American animal and the big green pimp are for when you want to eat the entire world and all your worries away. The Cahaba Cajun and the USA Cheeseburger are classic burgers that I eat regularly. The soco bbq bleus and the spicy cahaba are a bit experimental that I get every now and then. They are great options, my friend's favorite but lowest on my list. More Than A Handful: The conecuh dogs are and the cahaba chicken tacos are topped with some of the best slaw I have had. The conecuh dogs are probably the best hotdogs that I have eaten. The monte cristo is a rich treat and you HAVE to dip it in the pepper jelly it comes with. The fried green tomato BLT has convinced me this is how every BLT should be made. The moment I had the fish tacos for the first time on my 20-something visit, I knew this place was magical. They could do burgers, chicken and now some of the best fish tacos I have had. The Reuben is one of the only items on this entire menu that I do not personally recommend. Maybe I don't like Reubens? My friends and I don't agree that it's not bad but not worth wasting your trip to mudtown. Better choices on the menu. Entrées: The shrimp and grits made me emotional how good they were. Perfectly cooked shrimp, the sauce and grits GAWD. The slabtown soul plate... it is exquisite. It is the song of the south. The collard greens, Nashville chicken, the grits and hints of conecuh, doesn't get any better. One of the best meals in Birmingham. The catfish basket is incredible. The sauces it comes with make the meal. The pontchartrain pasta is a personal favorite of mine. It is a very rich, creole pasta with the perfect ratio of crawfish, andouille sausage, shrimp, veggies and pasta. The creole sauce is to die for. The crab cakes and the bistro steak are a house favorites. To me these aren't their specialty and are better options on the menu. Secret menu: The Texas Club. I have no idea why this is not on the menu. I really don't. I never saw it on the menu just saw someone eating it and asked what it was. It is a sandwich with turkey, ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and sauce. It is perfectly grilled. My go to lunch item. Get it with the chips! Never close mudtown!
