Excellent food, service, & atmosphere. This is now our go to place for any special occasion. The menu was full of interesting choices. The snapper throats are fantastic.
The small plates carried bold smoky flavors—standout was the beef shoulder cooked over live fire. A few dishes leaned slightly heavy, but the creativity showed through. The open, industrial-style space kept the night lively and engaging.

What a wonderful restaurant in downtown Birmingham. Great place to go with a group and sharing plates.
The tomato salad with the avocado dressing was phenomenal. Granted summer heirloom tomatoes are hard to beat.
Thank you for a wonderful evening and dinner.

We have always liked Ovenbird with the option of sitting outside to avoid noise and having a great conversation. Last night the weather was perfect for outdoors dining. Positive: we loved the scallops cooked to perfection, the burrata with tomato marmalade which was a nice and original combination, the tomato salad and Spanish tortilla were great as well. Negative: the snapper throat was disappointing. Not only was it quite small but they added a BBQ sauce that was spicy and took away from the dish. We had it in the past and it was a very different experience where the sweet potato puree was not ruined by the spicy sauce and the fish was much larger so there was something to eat beyond the bones. The waitress appeared inexperienced, suggesting the beef fat candle when we asked for vegan options! She was polite but adding a smile would not hurt.
We had a great dinner with friends in this restaurant. Everything tasted really good and super fresh. The cuisine reminds me of Spain vacation.
Service was friendly but not very attendant. Our drink order took very long. And they didn’t ask us for more drinks after we finished the drinks.
It’s a little bit pricey but definitely worth the price
We will definitely come back

Good experience. Haven’t done tapas in a while and from what I could tell, OvenBird doesn’t specifically market itself as a tapas restaurant. Given that, I appreciated that our server set the tone and let us know what most diners do in terms of number of plates and methods.
Food was good. Our table ordered the empanadas ($14 for simply 2 empanadas is pretty crazy, the quantity was not made known on the menu). Also ordered the paella, which was solid, proteins consisted of Chicken and Conecuh Sausage, which was a nice Southern twist on paella.
They were good, but the price point was not ideal. I ordered the Choripan (very good) and Snapper Throat (also good, a bit heavy on the BBQ sauce). Great experience, good ambience.

We are visiting Birmingham this weekend for the Lake Street Dive show tomorrow. Restaurant Week led us to OvenBird. Last night we ordered the Tomato Salad, Hanger Steak and Roasted Chicken. Among the best, most delicious meal we’ve ever had. The Tomato Salad is over the top delectable. Chris, our server, welcomed us to the restaurant and to Birmingham with informative, gracious service. Highly recommended!
OvenBird is one of our favorite spots in Birmingham! We've been several times and it’s always a great experience. You have to try the beef fat candle, it’s so flavorful and unique. The hangar steak is delectable and you have to order the wine Porrón! Trust me, it’s such a fun tradition and makes the night even more memorable! Phenomenal ambiance, service and dishes! Can’t recommend this place enough!

Five Stars Aren't Enough!
We visited OvenBird for the first time last Saturday. It was phenomenal. Monica, our server (also new to OvenBird) was fun, knowledgeable, and made perfect recommendations. She can order my dinner any day! The wine list was limited, no, curated is a better term for their carefully matched wines at a wide variety of price points. And then there was the food. Go hungry. Do not miss the beef tallow candle with sofrito. Trust me. Just order it. Don't skip the paella or mushrooms either. There is something for everyone on that menu. Everything we had was perfect. Thank you for a great evening! Hope to see you again soon.

What a wonderful find. Small plates, meant to be shared. Everything is cooked with live fire whether that be in an oven, on the plancha, or on a grill. Everything we ordered was spectacular. But the star of the evening was the beef fat candle. Imagine a votive candle made of beef tallow. Float it on a bowl of soffritto, herbs, and beef jus. Then light it and let the tallow melt into the bowl. Scoop it all up with generous helping of toasted ciabatta. Every dish we had was simply divine. The wine list is also very well curated, leaning toward Spanish and Argentinian varietals. And our server Monica was attentive and engaging without being annoying. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. Highly, highly recommend.
Best fine dining restaurant in Bham. Everything is great! Sangria is awesome.
The place was beautiful and our server, Chris was the nicest person I’ve seen this week. The food was good and Chris gave us two desserts. It was our mom’s birthday so We appreciate Chris, his good service, and the food and would definitely recommend to everyone.
