A group of us 4 ladies had so much fun at Parkside on 5th. We met Tim, the owner and he was delightful. The food and drinks were yummy and the atmosphere was perfect. I will be back. And oh, did I mention the candles? I bought several candles from Tim and they all smell delicious. I am a candle hoarder and these are the BEST. Thanks Tim for the cocktails and conversation!

Best bar in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham doesn’t skimp

No point in listening to when they open. On Saturday when they said they would open at 3 we waited and opened the door and were told “we need 10 more minutes”. Please don’t set times unless you will be open.

I went there for a private event. It is a nice little venue with table seating, bar seating, outdoor seating including a fire pit

My favorite spot in Birmingham! Great cocktails and great food.

This place has an amazing atmosphere dim lit and the drinks are phenomenal however; the drinks are ridiculously overpriced! For 2 drinks I spent $57. Is it worth that? In my opinion no, you can get amazing drinks in Birmingham without braking the bank.

A friend and I stopped here after work for a drink. I only had wine which was fine. Logan was on duty and while we killed time he was an amazing host. Granted there was no one else there bc we were really early but he was great. And the owner was very nice to talk to as well. I will definitely stop back after work or whatever I need a drink.

They have a beautiful & warm fire pit outside!!!! Food, service & atmosphere were absolutely exceptional. I will definitely be stopping by again and bringing friends.

Bartenders are attentive and make the best drinks.

Been coming here since the old ownership and have been back since the new ownership. Some things have changes but it's still a great environment to get a drink and some food. Great quality liquor selection and simple quality food. Do your self a favor get the house dry rub wing, something different but will be your new favorite. It is mine.

My husband and I went there last night with another couple for a drink and dinner. The drinks were good and bartender was great. The dining experience was terrible. The men got their food 10 minutes before the ladies. The salmon that was eventually served to the ladies smelled fishy. It was so bad that we coulda’t eat it. I quietly mentioned this to the owner who responded, “Well, I can’t give it to you for free,” and offered to pack it in a doggy bag. So, the ladies paid for a plate of rotten salmon and went home hungry. No wonder the place was empty. This experience was not like the delicious Hot Box that used to provide the food here. We will not return.

My wife and I went a few days ago for our anniversary. We were early so there was plenty of seats for self seating. They use the QR code for menu which I'm not a fan of but it was easy to use and to keep a tab open for the bar.

Drinks - excellent
Appetizer - devil eggs excellent
Salmon brussel sprouts - excellent
Fried ravioli - excellent
Bread Pudding - excellent

Great staff. We met the owner Tim and showed us the outdoor rear seating area that is amazing.

We will return and highly recommend going here for drinks and relaxing.

Also a great music playlist.

Vegetarian options: As a vegetarian I ate the devil eggs and fried ravioli. They were both excellent.

Kid-friendliness: This is a place for adult relaxation. Not for kids.

1. Bar mix was stale***
2. Servers were good.
3. Owner was mad that I requested songs and that I “yelled at him” but the only songs that everyone enjoyed were the ones we played.
More it seemed like a lot of racial connotations on the music that was played. He didn’t like the idea of club mix 2000 which seemed fun for the vibe. He played shaboozy 2-3 times in a row. Then watched me as I walked out.
I wouldn’t cause a scene but there are lots better places. I think they also charged me fraudulent for drinks as I asked for a few things and never received. Not a fan. Bartenders were great, but when the owner is micromanaging the whole night, I feel as the bartenders are uncomfortable as well. I was told by one that the owner isn’t comfortable with certain type of music based off the sounds. I didn’t know what that meant til I asked for “pon de replay”. Weird behavior. Not a fan. Wouldn’t ever go back.

We stopped in at 4pm to relax in the courtyard with our 8 month old babe, in a stroller, only to be told by the bartender “This is a bar, babies aren’t allowed”. 3 months later, this is still the only place we’ve ever been to actually deny us entry… During mid afternoon… wow.

Update 5/10/24: Things have changed quite a bit since my initial review. Parkside is very different and better in most ways. Better cocktails, better arrangement & seating on their excellent patio, better service, friendlier bartender.. The only thing not markedly better is the food. The old Hotbox was great too, until near the end. Very nice job, new owner.

Good bartenders, good drinks, decent beer selection. Sometimes they have something special on tap too.

Parking: Park where you can and walk through Avondale. It's a lively neighborhood.
