The food here is good and the first few times I went we had no issues. The last 2 times we were seated, we waited 20 min just for someone to ask what we wanted to drink. Just walked out with a group of 6 after being seated and sitting for over 10 minutes with nobody even bringing us some waters. Maybe 20 people in the whole restaurant so not like its busy. I dont know what's happened with the place but service has gone way downhill.
The music was very good and entertaining and not too loud. The place was very clean and appealing to the eye and the staff were very very friendly. My wife ordered the crab cakes app as her meal. They were really good and she enjoyed them. I ordered the Ribeye steak with potatoes and grilled brussels sprouts. The steak had good flavor but was very tough. For the price I would have hoped for a better cut/quality of meat. The brussels were really good, and the potatoes serviceable. All in all it was enjoyable but I will probably try many other new places before I would go back.
The whole experience was weird. First, it seems to be a sports bar now. Several employees avoided eye contact as we waited at the hostess stand. Eventually a guy asked if he could help us, found our reservation and took us to a table. We sat for about 5 minutes, and I finally went to the bar to ask if we were in the right place. The bartender (the nicest person there, honestly) assured me we were, in fact, at The Fennec. Then someone came and told us we were sitting at a reserved table. I said yes, we had a reservation, and she said well there is a standing reservation for this table and I need you to move. We asked where, and she pointed to a table literally 3 feet away. Okay. We moved. Another 10 minutes went by and a server came over and okay, go ahead. We ordered. The food was okay, not great, the atmosphere was chaotic and way too loud. None of the employees made any effort to welcome us, and the best part was that we could pay via the QR code on our receipt. We still tipped because we're not monsters, but it was a really terrible experience other than the okay food and drinks.
Hailey, Hailey, Ms. Hailey! You were absolutely wonderful, thank you for the great service! Lawd knows I was super hungry after visiting those 4 museums. I appreciate you and all the recommendation you provided me. Yes, of course I took her advice and ordered them all. Let's get in to it; The drink was phenomenal “Dragon Fire-very fitting lol) I loved the smoke show!! The Chilled Hotty Totty- not so much but that's a preference. She is miss the sugar rim : ( The crab cake appetizer were very delish and way larger then I expected. Good price point! Mozzarella sticks (can't ever go wrong there) I got the Panhandle Tacos and whatever sauce they use absolutely made the tacos. I wish I could have bought some to take with me. I got crispy Brussels instead of the chip and salsa, I'm so glad I did! They're the top 5 Brussels sprouts I've EVER eaten 8.5/10. I would come back just for that alone (well everything really). If you've never been here, get here!!!! I came in around 2pm on Friday and place was empty-SHOCKINGLY SURPRISED. Another great mention is a gentleman named Jay who was ever so kindly enough to give me a tour of the place. The upstairs is an astonishing large event space; bar area, separate kitchen, bridal suit with showers, and the most gorgeous bathrooms. Best in Birmingham from what I was told. If you are looking for lunch, drinks or an event space to rent for whatever reason look no further because this place is certainly it. When I tell you it's the whole kit & caboodle! Thanks everyone for making my experience great! Also Jay BK whoppers rule!!!!
I want to start off saying that the food was great and the bottle of mimosas was pe! Just a bit disappointed in a few things. We were the first ones to arrive as they opened. My best friend and I hadn't seen each other in awhile so I searched out a place on Open Table that still had reservations for a Sunday brunch yesterday. Upon arriving we were allowed to sit anywhere and the menus were dropped as the waitress went to get our waters. We looked at the menu and were disappointed to see it wasn't a brunch menu as advertised on their website. We asked the waitress when she came back with the waters (after a very long time for us to be the first patrons in the restaurant) and she said, oh no brunch today, sorry. So we dejectedly ordered the crab cakes as a starter. They came with greens that were supposed to be tossed with a citrus vinaigrette according to the menu but were dry. I asked the waitress about that and she said it's not supposed to have dressing on them, so I had to show her the menu and she just said oh. Then we both got the shrimp and grits since that was on the brunch menu at least. We got the shrimp and grits and they did not contain the corn or the tomatoes like the menu said. The waitress kept her distance from us except to refill the orange juice for our mimosas and never asked how the food was, so I just didn't mention it to her. I think she overheard us talking about being disappointed about the brunch not being offered, and the table next to us was disappointed about it as well. I do want to mention that the food was delicious and we were happy with it so I wasn't trying to get a discount, it was just disappointing to not have the brunch and then both dishes to be served without ingredients listed on the menu. The young man with the beard and long hair who checked on us later was very nice and welcoming so I hated to mention it to him, but I guess I should've. Please update your website and your menu if things have changed this much. Thank you!
The food was delicious and the staff was very nice and friendly! I would definitely recommend and go back
Great food and service. Our server, Alyssa was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. So friendly and attentive. The brussel sprouts were so crispy. Conecha corn dogs were amazing. The burger was crispy on the outside but still juicy. A++++

NOT A SPORTS BAR.
I think this place is having an identity crisis. Literally "Sports bar and grill" in the brick but we show up for Thursday night football and they have a life symphony event, which is streamed to all TV's.
Lovely event, and very well attended so good for them. But their website says it's a sports bar. Not a "live music venue with TV's" .
If you are looking for a sports bar atmosphere, this is a great place to go. We were expecting a typical dining experience before a concert. Nothing on the website eluded to this being a sports bar, so for that reason, we were somewhat disappointed. That said, our server nice and attentive.

We came for Saturday brunch. While the brunch menu wasn't available, the regular menu was decent. We were a large party of 12 and our server was excellent. Burgers and tacos were a hit. Shrimp po boy was nicely put together, but could use a bit more slaw type flavors, shrimp and grits were enjoyable. Sweet potatoes fries were yummy! Street Parking that day was okay.
The restaurant was packed with several large parties but the service was still good. Ordered an appetizer and it came out super fast. The music and singing entertainment was great without a high noise level. We had kids with us a Mac/cheese bowl was great for them. I will go back.
We had reservations but was late in arriving due to traffic accident. The young man at the check in desk was very pleasant and helpful. He asked if we preferred seating close to the music. We opted to sit away for a quieter dinner. Our server was very efficient and attentive. Our food arrived in a timely manner and was very good. Hubby had the Reuben sandwich and onion rings. I got the Rose Bowl which consisted of truffle mashed potatoes, corn and my protein of choice which was shrimp. We also had the Conecuh sausage grilled shrimp skewers for a starter. We were pleased with our choices. We had tickets for a musical show and when we let our server know this, she quickly handled our payment. Good atmosphere, food and service!
This place is great! We booked reservation through OpenTable and arrived at 6:45 p.m. on 08/09/2024. This is what Birmingham can and should be. Food and service keep with Birmingham's food tradition of delivering at a high level. Former guitarist from Telluride (the band) was one man show and filling the air with joyful sounds. The buildings is beautiful. The owner really needs to highlight the history of the building - what it was, and how he got it to its current state of use. The staff should be educated on the history of the building and photos from the buildings former use should be displayed. Fans are needed for outdoor tables.
