I have been eating here for over thirty years and having the all you can eat lasagna that is phenomenal on Thursdays or the Richman sub that has olive salad on it that just makes the sandwich if you like olives, it is great! I do enjoy eating here on the patio. They have had an older patio but just renovated the patio and it has a roof and it’s larger. It makes a very nice spot to eat lunch and enjoy the afternoon.

Mom and pop shops deserve all our support and Ranellis is the best sandwhich spot for exactly that.Genuinely the most delicious sandwhich I have had in a long time and I'm ashamed I'm just now finding this place. Wrapped in butcher paper and nestled in a brown bag like the old days.If you are from Birmingham you are required to go now, if you're not you too are required to if you visit. When I walked in and sat down I felt like I was back home, I got a hard reminder of what's important and special. So please from a diehard foodie. No fine dining and recreate these meals. They are uniquely Ranelli and uniquely Birmignham

A Five Points South classic sandwich joint. Great spot for a simple quick lunch, this pic is the large ham & Swiss sandwich on Rye.

I have been coming to this place for at least 46 yrs... maybe more. Pasta, lasagna, and The Richman! Straight up and family style. Don't expect anything fancy. Just great food and great people. Worth the trip and the wait. My only complaint is that they are not open on Saturdays. But that may just be a good thing. I might have a weight problem if they were....

Excellent old school deli spot in Five Points South. Try the Italian Sausage Sub or the Richman.

PENNE FOR YOUR THOUGHTS! Everyone has told me nothing but amazing things about Ranellis Deli. It is one of those spots that has been in business for fifty plus years. It's a mom and pop shop that has definitely never changed from when it first opened. I must have passed by this spot thousands of times. It's in a very prime location on the cusp of Five Points South and in close approximately to all the shopping that South Side has to offer. Courtney and I came in for lunch. Not expecting what we were getting ourselves into with the food, we both ordered subs. Court ordered the 12" sub and I the 6" sub. Both became combos with chips and a drink. The Italian sausage sub was fantastic. With Smokey sausage, onions, peppers and topped with tomato sauce. I felt as though if we were eating at an Italian deli there is nothing better then what they do best, Italian food. Courtney did stray from that thought and ordered a pastrami sub. Everything from the customer service, food and ambience was fantastic. I will most definitely be returning.

52 years of great sandwiches, Italian specialties, salads & service! We did lunch at Ranelli's in Southside yesterday. This was my 1st time dining in & I really enjoyed everything about it. I had the large roast beef sub with garlic mushroom gravy & a side of potato salad. The beef was nice & tender, the bread was soft & super fresh, but it was the garlic mushroom gravy that was the star. It was absolutely delicious! A savory flavor explosion. Truly a fantastic sandwich. They're not kidding when they say "large", this was a big sandwich. I ended up taking half of it home. The potato salad was also really good. Definitely homemade. Very fresh with a lovely, vinegary tang. Dad had the meatball parmesan served with a tossed salad & garlic bread. He was really happy with the quality of the meatballs & the large portion size. They definitely don't want you leaving hungry at Ranelli's! I had a bite & was also impressed. Great red sauce. I dug the atmosphere at Ranelli's. It reminds me of a place you'd find in New Orleans. In fact, the menu item Ranelli's is most known for is their "world famous" Richman's PoBoy featuring fresh Italian bread stuffed with ham, corned beef, peppered beef, genoa salami, pastrami, Swiss, provolone & mustard topped with Ranelli's olive salad. Sounds amazing, sans olive salad. I would definitely try it in the future. The inside dining area offers a casual, hole-in-the-wall type of vibe. There's also a covered outside dining area that looks very comfortable. Ranelli's is family owned & operated. They're incredibly economical. I think our lunch total was $22. I don't know where else you'd get the same quality & quantity at that price. They serve a few bottled beers & offer live music occasionally. I like Ranelli's! I'll definitely do my part to keep them around for as long as possible.

Absolutely love this place. The Richman is amazing. It is a small place , but has a big atmosphere. Almost everything is cook to order and taste great.
