We always make sure we go through birmingham and stop at Rodney Scott in our travels south. High quality food. Decent price. Local brews. What more could you want?

First time and it hit the spot. We both ordered baked potatoes with bowls of brisket chili. Huge potato with butter, and bacon. Put the chili on top and it was a great meal. Friendly service and great porch atmosphere at night. Will definitely go again.

Just OK barbecue. The ribs were served in a big portion but they were nothing special. The 4 varieties of bottled sauce on offer were all heavy on vinegar and just not very tasty. Coke slaw was fine and hush puppies were nicely light and not very greasy. Not a bad meal, but no raves.

I have heard quite a bit about this place, but it did not live up to the hype. The whole hog was pretty mushy and tasteless. We actually enjoyed the shoulder quite a bit more. Seems like the meat is cooked in a way that requires a sauce, which I generally do not use, but today called for some Rodney sauce, which was quite good.Wait staff were awesome and very helpful, very clean spot, no complaints there.Recommend:- pork shoulder- pimento cheese (and especially the sausage that comes with it)Will try again in a few months to see if this was a fluke. Good luck.Kid-friendliness: There was a mess of kids in there today and it seemed to be a great time.

Food and service was good. We had a party of 10 and they set up tables without us asking so we could all sit together. We had the Pork Plate with Slaw and Collard Greens, food was delicious. The tables were a bit sticky and could have been cleaned better. Overall a good experience.

Fantastic! I ordered the pit master so we could try EVERYTHING! Sausage, turkey, chicken, brisket, ribs, pulled pork, mac and cheese, greens, slaw, and hushpuppies. I also had a Bloody Mary while waiting for my order. Everything was amazing! I've been to the Charleston SC location and happy to say this was equal in every way. Thank you!! Staff were outstanding!

Had a great meal here (was recommended the ribs and brisket combo by the kind waitress). The service was great, the food was amazing, and the owner was very friendly and even showed me around the smoking equipment. Smoky, flavorful, generous portions. You can't ask for much more.

I really want to give a 5 star review but I have a big problem with our takeout orders. We order takeout a minimum of 3 times a month. At least 3/4 of the time, we get home to find a part of our order missing. Today it was the chicken from my chicken plate! Come on! PLEASE start double checking the orders to make sure all items are included.

Rodney Scott’s has been on my list for a long time. Finally got the opportunity to try while passing through Birmingham. My expectations were sky high and were not met. While nothing was bad, it was actually quite good, I may have been expecting too much. I may dine here again but would not drive across town to do so. The meat was good but did not care for any of the sauces. The sides were just average.

Shame on me!!!!!Rodney’s has been a fixture in Avondale for a number of years now and last night was the first time I ate there.Picked up a barbecue loving friend at the airport and needed a place to eat on the way out of town. We walked in as they were cleaning up to close for the night and they treated us great. Being two of the four customers, we received excellent service, great conversation about the restaurant and cooking, a tour of the pits and a sample of what is the best brisket I have ever eaten. But, I’m only 70 and have lived in the south all of my life. So, there might be better out there, but I doubt it.We enjoyed the pulled whole hog sandwiches, fries and drinks for a very reasonable price while visiting with the pit master and wait staff. Excellent barbecue, service, professionalism and hospitality. Thanks for the meal and the dining experience especially during closing hours and while getting ready for the next day.

I was super excited to try Rodney Scott’s BBQ after watching him on Food Network’s BBQ Brawl. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the food quality. I ordered the pull chicken sandwich w/ fries and my son ordered the burger w/ fries. Our total time spent in the restaurant was about 25-30 minutes. I literally watch the staff placed my sandwich, burger and one order of fries in the bag and set it aside while preparing others meals. When I inquired about our meal after three people who ordered after my son and I were seated, received and left with their food within the time we ordered and left the venue ourselves- I was told that they were waiting on an order of fries. Shortly afterwards, we received our food. The food was cold. The fries we were “waiting” on was at room temperature.
