I've ordered both the chicken philly and regular philly cheese steak and they were both excellent. Both sandwiches had just the right consistency of meat to melted cheese. I recommend this as a quick and convenient lunch choice.
Decided to try Salem's after reading about it in a column by Sean of the South. What a fantastic place! Small little hole in the wall with a big personality. The staff were incredibly welcoming and the vibe was like hanging out with friends and family. Will definitely recommend and hope to find myself back soon :)

This place is overall a great diner but they consistently over-charge when you go to pay. It seems like they updated their prices in the pos system but not the menu. At least that's the charitable way of putting it without calling it a flat out scam. Really frustrating to have the experience be good all the way until the end when, like clockwork, you end up in a frustrating situation.

The Philly cheesesteak and banana pudding are the best ever! I’ve been coming here for years and I never leave disappointed or hungry! Love getting to see Wayne too!

We came from Houston and had breakfast and absolutely had to come back for lunch! We highly recommend this place to everyone! Amazing service, amazing food and just a very family friendly place overall! We will be coming back if we are ever in town! Thank you Salem’s Diner!

Wayne Salem & Jonathan puts out the absolute best breakfast & Philly cheese steak in ALL of Central AL. And when Ms Joyce isn’t directing traffic, she’s bringing you your delicious food saying “what else can I get you, baby”.

Amazing grits, fantastic breakfast wrap (you don’t even know!) honestly one of the best breakfast I’ve ever paid for. Don’t let the hole in the wall storefront fool you, this place is straight fire! 🔥
We were disappointed. We ordered the Philly cheese omelette and a stack of pancakes. The pancakes were $8.99 on the menu but we were charged $9.99 and you get 4 small pancakes for that. The menu said the Philly omelette was $11.95 but we were charged $12.95. The omelette was really greasy and the hash browns are over done. $30 for that breakfast was way overpriced for the quality and what you get. This place needs to update their menu to reflect actual prices.

They are great people. The food is always fresh, hot, and correct on my to go orders. It's definitely worth trying.
This is a quaint little place in the middle of Birmingham to have a nice, quiet breakfast....R.O.M. E. O.s have found it which means it is good
,( that means retired old men eating out)
My daughter and I happened to find this place after a Dr appointment. The Philly cheese steak was the best, however the owner, Wayne Salem made the experience one to remember! ❤️
We ordered take out for meetings at work today. I ordered the chef’s salad for the first time. See photo - this is all I got for $13.00. This is not a chef salad. Chef Salads have lettuce, hard boiled eggs, variety of meats, cheese, tomato’s and cucumbers. I received lettuce, tomato’s and a little sliced ham cut up., and bacon for $13.00 That’s it! Very disappointed! They should list what they put on their salads if they don’t plan to make them like the rest of the world does.
Great and cozy little place with friendly service and awesome food
