The Purple Onion is one of those Birmingham spots that never tries too hard—it just is good. It’s the kind of place where you can walk in wearing anything from gym clothes to business casual, and no one bats an eye. The menu is a glorious mashup of Mediterranean, American, and Southern comfort food, which basically means you can get a gyro and cheese fries at 2 a.m. and somehow it all makes sense.

So many college kids acting like fools. I wondered if they were of age to even drink and act that way. Service was good and food was hot. Cashier was a little haugty, but I know they come and go.

The cashier (Indian girl) was VERY RUDE! On the price marquee it has $7.99 for the Turkey so I ordered, well she charged me $8.99 for the burger because that was the price in the system, I told her your must charge me whatever is on the sign, she said no! I tried to cancel the order, she said no because he had already started cooking! Iwas appalled...I couldn't believe what iwas hearing!

For this to be late night spot they completely dropped the ball waited inside over 40 minutes for overcooked wings and a lukewarm burger. SMH
If I could give 0 stars I would! Horrible customer service, lady with the pink sheet over her head is very rude, not understanding, slammed the door in my face and walked away. She acted as if I come there all the time, and knew what to order. No help. I am the customer lady! I was not rude, just wanted an understanding of your options! I will never be back and hope she looses her job! She doesn’t need to be interacting with customers! I own my own restaurant and would never treat a customer as such!! Livid still!! Just disrespectful and rude!

Ordered lunch online through toast*. The store had been open for 2 hours already by the time I ordered my food. I got there at the pickup time that was listed and they said there were cooks there yet 2 hours after opening. I could not get a refund on the order I placed because the poor girl did not know how to do it and there was no manager on duty.

The food was delicious. The wait time wasn’t long at all. The food portions were plentiful. I had to take a to go plate for my burger and fries. It does cost extra for bbq sauce but refills on drinks are free. The entrees are a little pricey but for the amount of food you get it’s worth it.

I love the presentation! I always order via uber eats and they put a little fruit and it’s so good! I had their salad and love the hummos! Only thing I took a star off for is the chicken kabob, maybe if it’s just me but the taste is a little off, it slightly smells like cleaning product. But other than that, good food!
