My wife and I tried this restaurant a couple of weeks ago. We have eaten at the original Rougaroux restaurant in this area, enjoyed it, and we wanted to try this newer one.

I am Cajun and I was very tempted to order the boudin, but it is hard for me to turn down fried shrimp. My wife ordered the shrimp poorboy and, because I wanted as many shrimp as possible, I ordered the shrimp basket.

The shrimp were excellent; light crispy batter and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The fries and hush puppies that came with my order were also very good. My wife really enjoyed her shrimp as well. She ordered her poorboy with just shrimp and the bun and eat them separately. I had some of her bun and it was really good. I’ll try the boudin next time.

One thing, though, if you are ordering shrimp; the poor boy is the better value. My shrimp basket, which cost $24, had 18 shrimp and my wife’s poor boy, which was $17, had the identical number. So unless you’re set on having french fries and three hush puppies, I would suggest the shrimp poorboy.

Almost forgot - Miles provided excellent service.

Happy Mardi Gras! I couldn’t recommend this place more. My boyfriend and I come in probably once a week. His classic go to is a bowl of gumbo with a mix of the shrimp and the chicken & sausage, with a side of a boudin link. I can’t have seafood but their blackened chicken poboy is my go to. We strive to get their specials, checking every Friday on Instagram to see what creative meals they will have. We’ve had the jambalaya, kimchi braised beeler’s pork cheek poboy, thanksgiving poboy, turtle bolognese, and smoked duck and magic city mushroom gumbo. The pecan praline bread pudding is so amazing. If you are looking for a drink, their frozen ones are so good too. We have celebrated accomplishments here on many occasions. Birthdays, post grad-school interviews, and work promotions. We have been to both locations but are close to the mountain brook. The customer service is always amazing and the food comes out quickly.

If you are looking for a good Cajun food that feels like you walked into the streets of Louisiana, definitely come here. Always give us comfort and always crave it.

Our Fat Tuesday order was 2 boudin links, red beans and rice w/ sausage, shrimp and crawfish etuffee, and the king cake bread pudding. The energy in there was so good. Staff was so nice.

Shoutout to Kris, they were so nice when we visited! Iconic story about how they got the job too.

NOLA vibes in Bham for win! The dining area is very small and big parties may not be easily accomodated. There is a bar with seating in case you just want to watch a game and chill out. We dined in for lunch and tried the daily lunch special for about $12 pp. It is the cajun version a soup & sandwich and it includes a beverage. The portion is not huge but it was for lunch so it is just enough for the average person. We got the cup of sausage & shrimp gumbo option paired with a half shrimp po' boy. The po' boy was nice and the cup of gumbo lacked flavor and spice but it was balanced enough for the older community to eat.

Quite enjoyed the original location, so it was only a matter of time before we tried out the new Mountain Brook location. The Rougaroux certainly has maintained its identity; zany, eclectic interior, spacious bar with many fun selections, and big, sloppy po' boys. There are new specials every weekend--make sure to check their Facebook page! Nice, though small, enclosed patio at the rear. The dining room can get loud when busy, as it was at noon on a Saturday. There was a line to the door to order, though it did move quickly.

Ordered a fried catfish po' boy, a quarter muffaleta, and bread pudding. The po' boy was absolutely stuffed, borderline too stuffed, and great as always. The muffaleta was excellent, and a perfect lunch portion. The bread pudding was a bit small for the price, but outstanding in flavor. Looking forward to coming back and continuing to work through the menu!

We Met friends here for a late lunch and had a great time. Miles was the only person working up front taking orders and delivering food. He did a great job. My wife and I shared a bowl of gumbo mixed and the BBQ Shrimp PoBoy and a side of collard greens (delicious). We also ordered hush puppies with their special sauce. Everything was

I ordered a meal for 16 made up of gumbo, jambalaya and red beans and rice and it was over the top in every way. It was ready at the exact time I requested and they graciously helped me load it into my car.
My dinner guests raved over the food. I will be ordering again! So glad to have this restaurant nearby in Moubtain Brook Village.

Wow, wow, wow. When I asked the waiter, how long the restaurant had been there, I was almost mad at myself when he told me it has been in Birmingham eight years. Why didn’t I find this place sooner? I went with my sister and my brother-in-law for dinner, we felt like we were eating in the French quarter. It’s the best Cajun food I’ve had north of New Orleans. You must try the shrimp, poor boy, better yet get the surf and turf because the roast beef will blow your mind. My sister and I also had the gumbo, the hush puppies are Devine, succotash was really good, and oh my wonderful tastebuds, the muffaletta was something like you would have on Bourbon Street. If you like Cajun food, this place has great food and a fun environment with lots of outdoor seating. Dog friendly to boot! I highly recommend that you try this at least once if you live in Birmingham or are visiting.
