Simp McGhee's Reviews
For years Simps has been my go to for special occasions and I have recommended it frequently. Not anymore. Tonight the staff acted as if they had never been to a restaurant much less worked at a white tablecloth establishment. I honestly can’t even list all the issues but for starters no one bothered to show us to our table (both the downstairs and upstairs hostesses just sort of grunted and pointed us in the general direction); the waitress couldn’t answer any questions about...read full review
Started out with crawfish eggrolls and spicy chicken wings. Both were delicious. Dinner plate consisted of fish and chips, macaroni cheese and a salad. Everything was wonderful. Throw in two long island teas and it doesn't get any better.
Drag queen brunches? Nope. This is how you go out of business. Stay focused on serving food, not debauchery.

Simp McGhee's provides a great overall experience with good food and service in a wonderful New Orleans themed atmosphere. The restaurant is located in a beautiful historic building in downtown Decatur, Alabama, featuring nice views, upstairs dining, a downstairs bar, and some outside seating. While the service can be a bit inconsistent, the staff is generally friendly and attentive, making it a nice place to dine. The menu offers delicious meals, including a unique sour beer called the "Ghost Train" and standout dishes like the DEANS DELIGHT, a prime rib filet that has impressed many diners. Guests have enjoyed appetizers like Deep Fried Green Beans, which are noted to be amazing with a fantastic dipping sauce. Although the bathroom facilities downstairs are co-ed and may require some extra attention, the overall dining experience is well-regarded. On Friday nights, there is live music, which can be a bit loud for conversation downstairs, but the upstairs area is quieter and more suited for chatting.
