River City Soul is a true gem! I had the two-catfish dinner plate, and it was absolutely delicious—10/10.
The customer service was just as impressive. The staff made us feel right at home, and the owner personally checked in on guests, which made the experience even more special. If you’re in town, it’s definitely worth coming!

@7pm on a Friday night! Bad service and bad management. I don’t review restaurants because I was a waitress for years but this was beyond unacceptable. We ordered ran out of drink before the food got to the table. Was not offered refills. Food came. Only got half of the order for each plate. The rest never showed up. Bake potatoes were half done. Still no refills on drinks. Ate salad and the half entrees. Spoke to manager to get it fixed. Never fixed. Asked for ticket and they wanted to charge full price for meals that we never received. I suggest you find somewhere else to eat. All of this happened when they only had 3 tables. 1 table of 4 and 2 tables of 2. The table that came in after us got all of their meal before we did.

I purchased a two pans of fried chicken for an event, and it did not disappoint! It was seasoned to perfection and had the perfect crunch! KFC and Popeye's have nothing on the fried chicken from River City Soul! I expected nothing less! Thanks Chief Reese and crew!!

Again, I must say that this place never disappoints! The steak was cooked med/well, it was so tender and juicy, I used the plastic knife on my steak without having to use any pressure. Lawd Hammercy😋 The hamburger steak was seasoned to perfection, and the gravy was just right. The salmon was reported to be delectable (I don't eat it), and the hamburger was even cooked to perfection! I didn't mention the sides. Just look for yourself!! He webt above and beyond when I called back to inquire about changing my side item. Tommie and this crew are aimed to please, and well pleased is my overall experience. Thank you, River City Soul, for another great dinner decision. Did I mention that this was a carry -out? It makes the review even better 😉

The entire team was so sweet and the food was beyond delicious 😋 I highly recommend the oxtail. They were so tender and juicy the meat was falling off the bones. Mrs Sonya came out to say hello to our entire family and her staff was so accommodating to our large party on mother's day. We can't wait to go back and dine in with them again. By far one of the best (if not the best) food/restaurant in marengo county!!

The past 3 Mays have been very HARD for me. May 4th of this month I lost a cousin back home in NC from a drug overdose he was given . May 8, 2023 I lost my youngest daughter at 26 yo, buried her the day before Mother’s Day. Last May my dad passed, 5-24-24, and he’s the reason I’m even in Alabama . I told someone recently of all my memories of him that I hate I never got his recipe for his rutabagas. I’ve never eaten ANYONE else’s in my 49 years on this earth. Well I ordered a plate on my way to work and the lady over the phone added they had them on the menu. I told her they made such a great first impression with me recently that I was gonna try theirs. First I got blessed when I tried to pay it had already been taken care of 🙌🏽. I was SHOCKED, wasn’t expecting that at all. Thank you whoever you are. I appreciate you. Then I parked so I can try my meal of turkey wings , sweet potato casserole, collards and rutabagas. My God from Zion, my mother had to keep calling out to me because I literally felt like my dad had just hugged me from heaven. They tasted JUST like his. They were cubed instead of mashed like he did but I know my dad’s cooking lol. It was like he came down to Earth and rested on the cooks hands as they prepared these. If you haven’t tried this place you need to. Great location, awesome prices , AMAZING food and great staff who are friendly and professional. Now yall pray for me as I prepare to do 14 hours tonight at work because all I want is a nap 😴🤣🤣🤣 . 10 out of 10 RECOMMEND 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🫶🏾

I’m writing this review on a Sunday because just as you get fed in a church on Sunday you gonna get fed at River City Soul! My family was in town for an event and needed to find a good lunch stop. We found RCS, ever so slightly off the main drag and IT WAS A REVELATION. Immaculate restaurant; clean from the parking lot to the restroom. Friendly staff and the kindest owner, Mr. Reese. The food. Oh my goodness the FOOD. From an unassuming simple setup I was served by the dearest lady, the most delicious squash, freshly fried shrimp, cornbread, and some chicken and dumplings so perfect that the flavor will carry me to the end of my days. Great prices and portions and every dish was perfect in its own right. This restaurant isn’t just a stop in the road; it is a flavor destination! Do your spirit a favor and go enjoy a meal with this fine establishment. They are most worthy of your patronage and your hard earned dollar. To top off the best meal I’ve had in years; I was floored to discover that another kind patron, Mr. White, had picked up the tab. What generosity! I pray the Good Lord blesses this restaurant and Mr. White and I’ll be dreaming of the next time I get to come and enjoy a fine meal again. We will be back and I’m telling everyone I know about River City Soul!
