After 39 years of being open, this place isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an icon in Bessemer. Honestly, it deserves to be considered a historic landmark.

We came in and had the bologna sandwich and the shrimp salad, and both were absolutely outstanding. The bologna sandwich was piled high, grilled just right, and hit every nostalgic note you could hope for. The shrimp salad was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. On top of that, the soup of the day was rich and comforting—true scratch-made goodness that you don’t find just anywhere. Even the sweet tea, served in a mason jar, felt right at home here.

But WT’s isn’t just about the food. It’s about the people. Meeting Wanda and Patti was an absolute highlight—they welcomed us like family, and that warmth is exactly why so many people keep coming back year after year. “JT’s is fairly basic as far as hotel bars go, though I’d think the renaissance would hold a higher standard. The food was excellent; fresh and delicious, just limited in variety. The drink menu was elevated but felt extremely short for a cocktail lounge. The staff did a great job, but were clearly struggling to keep up with the crowd.

“This was a cozy hotel in the historic 5 points area. We used street parking which was free on the evenings and weekends. Our bed was comfy and cleaned on day 2 of 3. Tiffany and Justin at the front desk were so kind and helpful! They made our stay so enjoyable even though the key cards for the rooms didn’t work.“
