Was very good until it permanently closed several weeks ago. Rumor has it opening June 1 with new owner for lunch and dinner only, no more breakfast.

I was impressed with this place. I came in on a Sunday afternoon, about the same time that church had let out. There was a wait, about 30 minutes. The staff at the desk didn't seem too friendly, but all the wait stuff was very nice. Once my table was ready, I had it over, and my waitress was pretty quick to come and ask me what I would like to drink. I couldn't decide between two plates, so I had to order both. Both of them looked beautiful, and tasted exactly as expected. If I have any feedback, it would be for the shrimp and grits. It tasted like the finishing salt, used before the plate leaves the kitchen, was a little heavy handed. Other than that it was perfect. This place is definitely something that I would be back to try again.

The food and service here is outstanding! I love the super cute decor and atmosphere. Staff is always very attentive and friendly. I love the pot roast ! Absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a great place to eat try out Café 98!!

I was excited when we walked in because it looked really cute. I liked how it was decorated. We stood at the hostess stand (we were the only ones waiting) and no one was there. Then the hostess and two employees came out of the back. They all looked at us but no one acknowledged us. They didn't say "be with you in a minute" or anything. She finally walked over to us, still didn't say anything. She started writing something down, finally looked at us and said "two?". I said "yes", she walked us past some empty booths, to a TINY table by itself against the wall. It just looked so uninviting, and there were multiple booths with two people, and multiple empty booths. I asked if we could have a booth instead, and she said "since you asked, yes. But now other people are going to have to wait longer. But if you insist on taking the booth then fine". There was no one waiting behind us when we got there and then another couple came in...and she showed them to a booth. Again, most of the booths had two people. It just really was not welcoming. I really liked our waitress. She was very friendly and on top of things. I didn't like how the employees were talking about their schedules in the middle of the floor and being snarky to each other. The food was pretty good (eggs on the Benedict were not poached, but lightly hard boiled) but honestly I won't go back because the hostess and some of the employees were so snarky.

First time at Cafe 98. Ordered the shrimp and grits. It arrived looking appealing and dressed with a cheezy sauce. It was seasoned well and included diced sausage. The service was outstanding with friendly wait staff.

Great breakfast this morning! I ordered the Tomato Benedict and it was wonderful - lots of fresh spinach, great hollandaise, and the eggs were perfectly poached. I had the fruit cup and it was full of fresh strawberries and blueberries. To top it off, there was a fresh orchid! My husband had the sampler platter with pancakes and a variety of breakfast meats that I got to try, too. The pancakes with some of my fruit was a nice addition. Yum! Good coffee to start with, too. Oh yes, good service as well.

We have been here twice recently for breakfast. The decor is pretty and the room bright. Our server was great and the food was served quickly. We were with friends and we all found our food to be very good. We won't hesitate to return.

I attend the Fairhope Kiwanis meeting that are held weekly at Care 98. The food is great and our host is Austin and he does a great job especially handling all of us at once. If you haven't been to Cafe 98 you have to try it out!

I usually give my servers and restaurant staff grace and patience. However, 2 weeks in a row we had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE. So now I know that the entire mood in there is to do the complete bare minimum at the job and to do it badly. Both weeks it took over an hour to receive our food. BOTH TIMES. There is no sense of urgency there what so ever. The food is WAY better at waffle house for a basic breakfast. We consumed both breakfast and lunch and neither blew me away. I have NEVER been so ready to leave an establishment. Not only will I review here but I also plan on telling anyone who attempts to eat there to run! This area has a million local amazing breakfast and lunch locations and if this place doesn't turn around their menu pricing and above all else their service, then it will not stay around.NOT ONCE AFTER ORDERING OUR FOOD DID OUR SERVER EVEN COME REFILL OUR DRINKS or CHECK ON US FOR IVER AN HOUR. NOT UNTIL I HAD TO GO UP TO THE FRONT HOST STAND AND TELL THEM NO ONE CAME. And once the food finally came out it was like a mom (server) shouting out McDonald's orders to her kids. She held the plates of food up and was asking who ordered what? WHAT A JOKE!!! oh and when the food arrived it was cold!!!

My breakfast was excellent. It was not only beautiful when brought to the table but tasted extremely fresh and perfectly seasoned. The eggs were cooked nicely. The entire experience was memorable.

Had a great dining experience here. The service was on point. We wanted for nothing and the staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The food it just really kind of underwhelmed us. Was not flavorful. It definitely did not match the atmosphere of the restaurant. Would love to come back and give this a second shot. They might have been having an off day. But if you're looking for a quick bite and a friendly staff, this is definitely a good place to go

A throwback in a beautiful historic home! We went for breakfast - I got the seafood omelette with a biscuit and gravy and a side of cheese grits ?? From the coffee to my last bite I have to say it was heaven! Staff was on top of our table, and food was great. Definitely recommend.

This was absolutely the worst service I have had anywhere. It seemed like the waitstaff was fighting. No one would help anyone else. We arrived at 9:00 am for breakfast and was there one hour before we got food. Had to asked for refills on coffee . This was during the week, they were not busy.

You walk in the door and as soon as the sweet smiling hostess greets you, you know you're in for a great experience. And the re-do since the last occupant is crisp, open and welcoming. We ate there 1st day (8/31) for lunch (Delious Hawaiian burger, sweet potato casserole & okra for me, and the grilled shrimp plate with cream corn & sweet potato casserole) and the next day (9/1) for breakfast. Returning a second day based on the first should say a lot for food, service & atmosphere.Their coffee is the best anywhere - I had 3 cups the 1st day and 4 the next!!!I actually had shrimp and grits both days. I opted for no meat but shrimp in my breakfast serving, instead having it on the side. It turned out to be a very smart move. The proteins didn't compete that way.Trust me, you'll never want "plain ol' breakfast foods" again. And as if it wasn't a scrumptious looking plate already, they 'guild the lily' by topping of the grits with a beautiful petit orchid. And the service is 5☆ - THANK YOU TINA! Your anticipated every need.Cafe 98 is THE PLACE to treat yourself special. YOU DESERVE IT! Tell them George and Deborah sent you. ?
